Duck Duck Go is Getting More Traffic

I see complaints about Google search results almost everywhere now (that has nothing to do with IM), like hobby forums and such.

I’m really thinking to get rid of google what do you’ll think should I do it

There was a discussion about this topic a few years back then:
https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/e...ervices-now-your-future-depends-on-it.941110/

I stopped using many Google services since 2017.
Deleted my GMail accounts and then switched to Yandex Mail and Protonmail.
The default search engine for my browsers is DuckDuckGo.
I also disabled my Google services on my Android phone too.

Sure there will always be people who deactived everything from google but there are much more people who will never stop using because they don’t care what google is doing or not. Google is to big.

How ironic is that. Google policy say that we should be careful with the adsense placement as NOT to confuse the users with the ads BUT they are doing the EXACT SAME thing.

Also what happened with "do not place ads to cover content above the fold"???

100% of the listings above the fold and beyond are ads now.

Does anybody else remember Overture? It was 100% CPC "search engine". Every listing was paid for. Google has become Overture.

Say what you want, but Google is too big to fail. I am not only taking about the search engine, but also the translator, Google maps, image search, gmail, I don't even want to start about Google on every iPhone and Android phone and all the other stuff they are doing.

Alphabet is too big to fail. However, Google Search could wither away and die over time. If that happens, then they'd likely split up the different companies (YouTube, Gmail, etc.).

I remember the time when Altavista.com was the best search engine :D

Edit1: Daaaamn I see they got bought by yahoo. Never knew that lol.

Yes you are right, but I just dont see how MANY people; I am talking about the average joe, would suddenly make the change and start using a different search engine. Lets be honest: the most people dont give a fuck. They just type or speak the question in their phone and get the result on Google. It needs some fundamental changes in the people’s mind and their devices to make them use a different search engine. The most people dont question Google, they dont know about their updates, algo etc. they are just normal users.

Not only traffic is increasing, public opinion about Google is going downhill.

It looks worse than Overture, all paid ads above the fold. You can no longer tell what's an ad and what's organic either. I mean we can but end users usually think those are search results.
privacy is not an concern of majority so ddg wont win with google just like linux didnt convince the majority of computer users

They didn't make this rule for no reason. Bad ad placements = low quality clicks = unhappy advertisers = less revenue for Google. Those clicks on organic search are high quality and keeps advertisers happy; it's common sense

This is same as if we say that Windows will die. NO IT WONT. We all want to happen and get free of their monopoly but it's just impossible. This companies got to big and to long on the market... They got in every field of the people life. They ARE EVERYWHERE.
This could only happen if higher order would step in, for example a court or something and stop their monopoly.
On the other hand the law failed the system because they allowed for this companies to grow so much and become monopoly on the market.

Do you think the ads on their Search engine results are good placement and the users are happy clicking the ad. NO, because most of them are some websites trying to take your money for little of info or no quality content at all. Personally I always skip the ads at the top because I am sure I wont be satisfied with the content.

I guess G would eventually evolve into a headache.

It won't be an overnight thing. Tech trends always start with the hardcore people (us in this case) and then move outwards as things get progressively worse.

Google's results are not good enough anymore, been that way for quite a while now in my experience.

And I've noticed some of my blogs have received traffic from Duck Duck Go back last year, which is awesome IMO.

I hope they will start to get even more traffic.
I just noticed I rank way better on DuckDuckGo than on Google; I'm not sure if this is a good thing though

My response was as to why Google says you can't confuse users, and why it's fine for them. And of course users don't like ads, nobody does, but it's a bit hypocritical to complain about this when we do the very same thing.

Google is focusing too much on making money, especially with the new CEO around. Google cannot be all profit-driven or it will have to risk losing its market share to DDG, Yahoo or Bing. I think the new CEO doesn't get it straight.

Yes we do that, but we are far from monopoly like google. Google uses its monopoly position to force ads on users. We give content to the users. So it is different.

EDIT1: When I think more google also gives value but.....

I didn’t even know what DDG was until I saw a visitor from there to my website. Interesting that they’re growing.
