Don't make this mistake on flippa

You're having a difficult time selling to lawyers. The ones you're speaking too are probably well established in their profession (hence no need for extra clients).

Why don't you find a way to contact new lawyers, those who are hungry to get established?

I guess 10 X monthly is the norm at flippa. But who knows ?

Norms usually 3-4 months for flippa. But yeah from my experience from flippa asking for screen sharing evidence usually reveals scammers

I'm guessing the guy who was buying leads was the seller or his friend.

Be careful in future, Sorry that you were scammed :(

The always self-repeating Flippa story.

Be very careful with Flippa. All they do is list stuff, but not offer any guarantees whatsoever on that listed stuff.

I'd probably be punching holes in my wall if I lost like $15k but also use the anger as a motivation to make the money back and take it as a lesson.. unlucky dude.. me being a noob I can't really say anything to you but I hope you bounce back from this man I am sure you will, good luck!

Yeah not necessarily one stream, but more than one buyer lol. I as a seller will guarantee that income loss will not be less than 20% if the exact steps shared dealing with management are not alternated. Now there's a pro and con to this. If they alternate and they're seasoned in my sites niche or website flipping period they could lose out on potentially MORE money. If they do stick to my agreement they won't necessarily be out of money if the site starts to plunder the first 60 days.

Any time you ask about the what ifs and are promised a money back guarantee, get it in writing...get it signed, if possible get it attached to a photocopy of their ID or notarized.

I'm a bit paranoid so this maybe a bit much, but do a little more research on the seller once you have won and already discussed the terms. Find him on FB, on linkedin, on whitepages. How likely is this person to disappear if anything happens.

One more thing, don't be afraid to ask for references of past buyers. Reach out to them and see how satisfied they are after 3, 6, 9 or 12 months. If they're hesitant to share due to privacy reasons, do ask them to reach out to the buyer before sharing information so that permission is granted and you're not "bugging" anyone. If you're really bold, offer to pay for their time as a "consultant."

Don't be afraid to spend $25 for 5 minutes of time to save thousands on a junk site.

selling them to a lawyer for $150 each. tried contacting other lawyers in my niche..probably around 500? but none of them wanted to even consider to buy them. Well, actually 5 responded but they never answered back to my offer. And I didn't even say $150 per lead, I just said I was willing to offer them leads or whatever...

Anyways...

Lesson #3

Doing business with lawyers is tough unless its an easier niche like traffic accidents or something...

That's because there is some rule in the US about lawyers advertising. You should look it up, because I"m probably gonna botch it but there are strict rules for lawyers when it comes to advertising. When I was younger, I had one call me and when he found out I was already with another lawyer, he hung up on me. I asked about it and that's what I was told. I suppose I dodged a bullet with a shady lawyer, though.

Thats a very terrible thing, thank you for sharing it with us!

Well it could also be possible that the guy who used to buy the leads 'might' be legit and must be transacting with the original owner through other means or just like others said, obvious set up.

At least you learnt a lesson OP, wish you bet of luck in the future...
Sorry for your loss man! You can't report the guy for scamming?
It wasn't a scam actually, the other person must have contacted his own clients and just forwarded them to a new site (that he's probably going to sell to someone else) :D It's just Marketing. :D

I guess 10 X monthly is the norm at flippa. But who knows ?

Yeah, usually the price is something like this + some other factors may come in (like the future potential of the website, if it has potential to make even more, then the price will be more for this reason and etc.).

For those who are asking why people sell websites, which are making money - there could be a lot reasons for that. Some people make money by simply flipping websites.

its good for selling not for buying, but i had trouble simply because i had domain with 123reg all buyers on their assume your with godaddy, must be a american thing.

The reason the Lawyer don't want to buy your leads is because they see competition (AdSense). When you're approaching potential lead buyers take AdSense off of your site. They just might be more responsive to your offer.

That's some basic common sense..

humans will spend 500x more effort trying to reclaim lost profits, then going out and finding new profit.
exactly, that's why most people can not stop as they start gambling, they are sensible, even they rarely gamble before.
