Hi everyone, I own a movie streaming website, gained a lot of attention in 4 months already, would like to hear your thoughts on this.
Is it ok to use namecheap to buy domains from there? (I know that domain takedown is gonna happen and u cant prevent it) Should i use VPN to register in namecheap?(Someone told me that namecheap bans accounts for using VPN, but i am not sure). I am gonna use crypto as payment method, any other actions i should take to be protected? Thanks!
Yo, big ups on your movie streaming site blowing up!
Namecheap's legit for domains, now let's see this progress technically
:When you register a domain with Namecheap or anybody, the registrar itself does not necessarily track your physical location based on the VPN connection you use during registration. You can be in an internet cafe and do it right ? The only thing is when you register a domain, the registrar collects information such as your name, address and so on..Namecheap will always have access to the information you provide during registration.
ok, lets dig deeper into.
For example, when you register a domain, the registrar collects information such as your name, email address, and billing details. This information is associated with the domain record in the WHOIS database.
This database is publicly accessible and contains domain ownership details, including the registrant’s (your) contact information.
For your safety: You need to purchase a service called
"Domain Privacy Protection".
Namecheap offers a service called "Whois Guard" that helps protect your privacy. When you enable that for your domain, your personal information (such as your name and email) is replaced with generic contact details.
So, even if you register a domain using a VPN, your contact information (unless protected by Whois Guard) will still be associated with the domain in the WHOIS database. Keep in mind that inside the system, I mean not for the public eye, Namecheap and ICANN (the big boss) still have the contact details you gave them to register the domain.
Using crypto's smart for privacy. Keep your site locked down tight with security measures and stay woke on the legal side.
Shortly said:
VPN Use: I am 99.9% sure it is no problem. The VPN masks your location, not your identity. Namecheap or whoever isn’t tracking where you’re at, just the info you give 'em.
Personal Info: necessary to register a domain. This stuff gets linked to your domain in the WHOIS database, which is out there for the world to see.
Privacy Shield: Here’s where you level up your privacy game. Domain Privacy / Whois Guard is the key. But remember, behind the scenes, Namecheap and the domain overlords at ICANN still have your original info.
Crypto Payments: smart play. But stay woke: crypto ain’t foolproof.
Keep it up!
