Doing a 301 redirect or referring traffic

Hi, got a question.

I own two websites; one is my business (businesswebsite.com) where I'm trying to rank the highest within my niche.
The other is a domain i purchased which is my main keyword (keyword.com). Today, I have keyword.com set up as a blank page with a referral button in the middle, sending traffic over to businesswebsite.com.
This counts as a backlink from the keyword.com website, but as the page is blank, it's not very strong.

Would a 301-redirect be better for SEO?

Does your keyword.com have any sort of strong backlink profile? As it's just a blank page, how does it get it's traffic?

If the keyword.com domain has a decent backlink profile I'd be tempted to 301 it to your main site. However if it doesn't, then I'd personally go down the route of building out an informational site on the keyword.com domain and linking to your businesswebsite.com site naturally, then start a link building campaign on keyword.com to juice it up.

It does not have any strong backlink profile, so my thoughts were exactly this. Either do something about the site and create an information hub linking to my website, or doing just doing the 301.

One of my main competitors have "keywordandtwoletters.com", so a lot of users go directly to "keyword.com" thinking it will go to them. Thanks for the replies.
