Does your blog have to focus on a specific niche?

If you closely watch the sites now on internet, most are having focus on specific nice only. This this approach is best.

It depends on your knowledge and area of interest. If you can write as many niche then it will be very good for your blog to boost quickly.
As now a days people want to read mixed content on a single site.

There's no reason why it won't rank, but you would be better off concentrating on one subject in each blog.
You could take your posts for each niche and put them on seperate blogs.
If you focus on one subject then you could aim to be seen as the authority for it, but too many subjects is kind of confusing to a reader.
Say I wanted to sell dating products from my site, but the interested visitor found other pages on it for best smartphone or sofabed.
They probably would click away.

Let the posted blogs be and look for long tail keywords which has a low SEO difficulty. Make sure to hammer it beautifully yet gently with posts. Slidely move your blog into something which bring you more traffic

My thought exactly, if its just for fun go for it. If you're hoping to build a business out of it then you must focus. You want to be the reference in a certain topic, so that people know they should come check your blog for info on that topic.
If it's all over the place, there's no reason to go check your blog. I don't think many people will go check everyday if you wrote something interesting, and hop its football, and hop its quantum physics. When I want to bake a cake, I check the blog of a baker I know.

In a certain way it should be a topic specific you cannot simply run a blog in every field - it needs to be moving in a single direction. You can consider making it as vast as you can but you have to make it in one niche. For instance if it's about tech then you can write everything about a single sub niche of tech or if it's about celebrities then you can post everything about any celebrity.
Not really.. blog could include multiple niches... It takes more effort to get them ranking...than in niche blogs...but with right practices..it would work like a charm..All the best!!

Niche down and then build up when you get a bigger following or run out of things to write about. That being said i started my last blog casting a wide net and not really niche which is why I get sidetracked and end up writing in categories on my blog that Interest me.
