I was wondering, is using alt codes like ► or ★ instead of the usual "-" bad to use in seo titles to show in search results?

I noticed some niche websites are using this to stand out.

Are there any negatives to this?

Thank you

Not in my experience. Obviously this varies SE to SE. I would recommend doing some testing.

It really shouldn't, and if it does, its so far down the fixit "bang for the buck" that it should be one of the very last things you worry about.

In fact if with successful branding, it could be very good for SEO. Imagine a bunch of people searching for a totally unique search term that no one but you uses.

Your good sort of, they are aware of alt codes, it's visual. When someones else is ranking for "rubber duck" and you are alt coding before rubber duck... in my experience I came in 2nd.

Like stated there are a lot of other factors to worry about.
