Does this method improve SEO?

I stumbled against a couple of pages that had a whole bunch of backlinks to one another but hidden in the html before the header. Any insight on improving seo with this technique?

one of them is actually ranking #1 while I am #2 and they show literally less than 10 Backlinks where I have a couple of hundreds. Never seen this before so any comments apreciated.

Lol? This is a joke right?

It'd be a great way to trigger a manual review, if not an automatic penalty.
 
I've never heard of this, the web page won't load up for me :/ is the webmaster randomly putting other website url's into their page before the header tags? Sorry if this is a daft question
 
Well the code says <div Id="wpcumuluswidgetcontent3470062"> <p style="display:none;"> and then your typical href for around 260 sites. By what I see all 260 sites have the same code link swapping between them.
 
Seriously though... apply some common sense.

You're talking about beginner blackhat SEO methods from 1998. Hiding a div with CSS, and expecting Googlebot to crawl over it, somehow ignore the fact that it has a display property that hides it from visitors, and then credit the backlink with high value. As much as we all hate Google, you're really underestimating how sophisticated their crawler is, and how unsophisticated this method is.

That's why i am scratching my head... They made me drop in SERPS to #3 and #12 when both my sites where in the top 2.

So seeing that crappy method plus the massive increase in exact searches for my keywords made me realize they are also generating traffik via google search and it has worked for them as this is the second week. Really sucks...
 
IS there a way to see the code, I tried the site you gave, i removed the dot and replaced it with . and i don't know what's that (merical) suppose to mean, thanks
 
Sorry it's just a dot com also there is a space at the beginning.
 
It should be working now, I erased the www when I edited it
