Google recently introduced two new attribute in "Nofollow" link

  1. Sponsored =》 that identifies link is a part of advertising, sponsorship or similiar agreements.

  2. Ugc =》 that identifies link is a type of user generated content, like comments or forum posts.
These updates helps to understand the link type and their intention, why it has been created and also it create a value of those links.....but the question arises here

Does these updates affect ranking or helpful in ranking of content/ keyword?

Please share your opinion.....Thanks :)

These changes are pretty new. It is still early to discuss their importance.

I just read about this on SEJ https://www.searchenginejournal.com/google-nofollow-hints-seo/325363/

Is pretty interesting. Could we see a come back of automated link building on forum backlinks etc are all nofollow currently but might become nofollow with UGC attributes that pass juice/signals?

If more user-generated links start passing juice, surly that opens more possibilities for auto-generated links?

It’s too early to tell. Google says they will be helpful for ranking, especially for blogs. Still, I think this change will cause a lot of spam and auto-generated links.

I believe it will slowly alter all search results in favor of those who created links patiently in authority sites from within the articles plus good onpage optimization on website. All past mass links will become nofollow. But maybe that's only me

This happens because some companies (especially news sites) tried to play the system by putting nofollow to every reference.
However, I think some of them will try to over-use the tags sponsored and ugc.
