Just curious if I take content from competitors that are already ranking and rewrite it in my own words, can it actually help with rankings?

Has anyone tried this approach and seen good results?

It used to work well
But now that AI-generated slop is rampant, you'll have to test it out

Rewriting the same information in different words isn’t much of an SEO strategy by itself. Ranking pages are useful for figuring out search intent and the subtopics Google already rewards, but the finished page still needs a reason to exist beyond being a paraphrase

Simply rewriting a competitor’s content isn’t enough. Use it to understand the topic and search intent, and create topic more authentic, useful, and original. This can make the difference, not the rewriting.

Simply rewriting competitors isn’t enough. Use their content for research, then create something unique with better information, examples, and structure.

Rewriting competitor content can help you understand the topic, but changing the wording alone is not enough. The better approach is to see what already ranks, understand what users need, and add useful information that makes your page more valuable.

Yes it helps get you in the game but not usually to the top, search engines still favor the source with more depth/authority signals.

Combine top 3-5 ranking articles extract gaps then fill those gaps with something none of them cover that is what actually moves the needle.

this is very common practice but just rewriting their article is not enough in many cases. my suggestion would be that u examine what they have written and then provide your own examples, elaboration or some missing infformation. this will give u the advantage of ranking.

Don't rewrite a single article, pick 3-4 similar ones and then use them as reference to write a better one.

i think rewriting alone isn't enough. i'd use the ranking pages to understand what's missing then make the content genuinely better.

Rewriting alone usually isn’t enough. Better to use ranking pages for research, then add something better—clearer structure, fresher info, original examples, or more depth.

i have used competitor pages more as a template rather than for rewrite purposes. competitor pages could tell u which topics to expect from google but just copying that same format in ur own words is not going to help ur page be unique. it would be better to find some pointts they left out.

i have done this before and the gud thing is not the act of rewriting. when you see what other ranking pages were talking about you will be able to figure out what they does not talk about.

Suppose you find the gaps and fill those gaps with some content, it seems that content won't rank for the same keyword as the ranking ones. It may compete for other keywords with a new set of sites.

it can help a bit but just rewriting competitors usually wont be enough add your own info examples and better answers to the search intent

i would assume using ai would help making articles more informative, find gaps, i usually ask my ai to do deep research and give me an article outline and i will decide if its good to develop the content that way, wondering if others have a different strategy
