Hello,

I am on Rank 8 for a particular keyword with a good search volume. I have created 2 web2s and 1 profile on that article whereas my competitors are ranking without any backlink.

All the competitors have low DR, less content, and less authority. Still, I am not able to get to the top position.

Is there anyone who can share which type of backlinks are working currently?

PBNs, guest posts and niche edits are the best links today... well, as long as they're d0follow and meet the other important criteria, obviously (low OBLs on the same page, quality sites / RDs, safe anchor text, etc.)

Also, regarding the d0follow part... nofollow links will work, too if they come from sources that google trusts blindly (big brands usually, but also .edu and .gov sites)

that's too few backlinks (especially since they're so weak) to get decent rankings. And the fact that your competitors rank without backlinks could be attributed to a lot of things: their content is better, their domains are stronger, they have hidden links (hidden from the SEO tools that you used to check their backlinks I mean, otherwise they can't be hidden from google and still benefit from increased rankings), the user engagement / bounce rate / session duration are better, they're more trusted by google because their brands are older / stronger / whatever... a lot of reasons like I said..

All the competitors have low DR, less content, and less authority. Still, I am not able to get to the top position.
how did you assess their authority to know that it's less? I usually consider authority to be the DR, but you said that the DR is low anyway, so what else is there to it that I'm missing? What authority are you talking about?

But anyway, even if their content is less it might still be better than yours, which is why they're outranking you... or like I said, their domains might be older / trusted more by google, who knows? Or it might simply be that their domains are more topically relevant to the keyword you're trying to rank for than your domain, this could also be a possibility....

You need to run a content audit, a backlink audit, and a technical SEO audit for your site and for your competitors' sites to see where the (big) differences come from because - I forgot to mention - the speed, user friendliness (navigation and cleanliness) and structure of the site matters, too. Google compares pages against a lot of factors (over 200 more specifically) when they choose where to rank them, and if your competitors pass more checks than you then they will outrank you a lot

I also check the DR for authority I have a DR of 58 whereas the top-ranking pages have a DR of below 40. Even the UR of those pages is lower than my page

The website which is ranking at No.1 is a service-based website that revolves totally around that keyword. But the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc are just a simple blog like my website. I am targeting the 2nd position. I have also given more than 20 internal links from different relevant pages of my website still I am not relevant than what is the relevancy in the eyes of our Google??

I don't know then, it could be randomness like someone said on the forum few days ago. More specifically, google gives low rankings to random sites to make them buy google ads. So, you've probably been the target of such randomness

If you don't mind, if you are aware of the thread that shows the latest On-Page SEO practices then please share. I will improve the On-Page and increase the backlinks on that article.

No, profiles and web 2.0 are trash.

If you’re already at #8, it might be something missing in your on page. You may not need any links. The Web 2.0 links you’ve made are probably not even indexed anyway.

You might be able to get an improvement just by adding/removing some keywords from your page.

I’d start with the title. Check the titles for the other 9 results. Are you missing any words in your title that are showing up in the other results?

Next check the meta description. Google rewrites those to satisfy the search intent. Are there any words in the meta descriptions that are showing up on multiple results? Add those to your title/page.

Follow the same process for other sections of your page.

Once you’re done, submit it for re-indexing. You’ll see the results in a few hours after your page is crawled.

It may or may not help but it’s free and it takes a few minutes. If you do it right, you should go up a few places imo.

I think I should do On-Page again. I will do it and let you know if it shows the result.

One more question.

Where do I check the indexing? Ahrefs or Search console. 2 Web2s that I have created are showing up in Ahrefs but not in the Search Console. So, Is it the reason why the link is not working?

You can check it on google. Type site: followed by the URL of your Web 2.0. It’s highly unlikely that it’s indexed.
