Does Money Buy Happiness?

I don’t know if money can buy happiness, but I do know lack of money causes hunger, jealousy, depression, bankruptcy, marital problems, and divorce.

Money will give you lots of happiness, not all, but a lot

Money makes life easier, I believe a healthy person with money is more happy no doubts.
 
Not directly, but you can buy actions/things that make you happy. :anyway:
 
Coming from some difficult and dire circumstances, I do agree that money can buy happiness. But that's what I think, and many people have a completely different view.

For me, money has always been the answer.

Everybody laughing at you for having holes in your shoes, plus you having constantly wet feet as a teenager? Money is the answer.

Living in a shitty rented place with mold everywhere, having to sleep under 5 blankets and waking up with your eyelids frozen shut because there is no heating in the winter? Money is the answer.

Your mom having serious health issues and needs medicine? You guessed it right, money is the answer.

On the other hand, for others, the answer for everything is often 'people' instead of 'money', because they have achieved their success/happiness directly thanks to people (family, friends, special others, teachers, mentors, soulmates, whatever). In my case, however, no one ever cared when I suffered the most, and money was the one and only thing that made 99% of my problems go away. So, money is definitely my 'ticket' to happiness.
 
To me, money is printed freetime, that I can spent on what makes me happy. Family, friends, hobbies...

Forget this idea. Find a way to be happy without relying your happiness on external things (like money, products, having a girlfriend etc) and everything will follow.

Does money buy happiness? Yes and no but it is complex. For 99% of people and situations it will be a big fat no. On the other side: Having too less money won't bring happiness either.

Well said and this is what I believe also. Material happiness might also be described as contentment in you physical living situation, ie. house, car, location. True happiness is more reflected in family and friends, which are not material possessions.
 
So I'm not sure if its been posted yet. But there was a study that suggested money doesn't buy happiness after you make about $75,000 USD / year. I would assume that number would fluctuate based on family size, geography, general taste for expensive stuff, etc.

I believe this to hold some level of truth from my life experience.

Though I get your point. Money is a solution in your circumstance not a direct cause of happiness.

Having a warm home but no one to share the warmth with is not happiness.
Having new shoes but no where to walk to and no one to walk with is not happiness.
Having the money for healthcare but living a miserable existence is not happiness.

Think again. Think of money as a means to solve problem. All those things might have made you happy in the moment but wont have brought you fullfilment and joy.

Also happiness is not somewhere you get to. You're either there or you're not. If you ever have visit a childrens ward suffering from some serious illness and watch parents trying to cheer their kids up.

Broken souls with fake smiles and faker acts, tired and worn out, just living in the moment day to day with the only joy being when they see their kid smile. You'll understand what little effect money has and how miniscule your broken shoes and cold home really is.

P.s I hope youre mum is doing better. My mother is suffering from stage 4 breast cancer and its scary sad and frustrating to see a loved one you once thought of as invincible be so fragile. Life is tough. Money can't buy happiness.

Money does not provide happiness, but the way you use it, of course, provides happiness without a doubt.

What money buys for me is time. And for me, maximizing my time to do the things I want to do and enjoy brings me happiness. Thus money = time = happiness. Without money, there is no time and no happiness.
 
money can buy hapiness. but u can not buy love u get from someone u like as a llife partner. me thinks
receive love from sumone u like is form of hapiness too

passive income is good so u can spend time more with someone u lov :)

is more valuable then money. even if u rich but spend less time with em

Unfortunately we live in a world where everything is changing so quickly we totally lost the battle with reality!

I'm 34 years old and I can only dream about that time when I was young and how it was when I was a kid, we had no internet, no cell phones, expensive cars, all kinds of nonsense that today 90% people wants to have but... We were happy with money and without money!

Today is such a time that unfortunately money dictates our happiness no matter what anybody says, this is a harsh fact!

You've got money you are happy!
You don't have $
You are not happy, end of story!
