Does EMDs take longer to rank?

I had a pmd a while for the same niche in a while, main keyword was ranked page 2 with just 30 profile links from fiverr. Kwfinder difficulty was easy with 165k search volume.

But i swapped over to an EMD, thinking it'll give me an edge.
My main keyword isn't even ranked in the top 200.
It's been a month now.
I had the article rewritten and placed on the home page.

Do I give it more time? or am I doing something wrong?

Nowadays, Google tend to favour authority branded sites and PMD. EMD isn't as effective as is used to be.

Any links to read up on and personal experiences?

I read that EMDs still have an edge compared to PMD & branded due to better click through rates & relevance.

That's amazing SEO blog, that talks about something having an advantage, but forget to mention how to actually use it. No idea what kind of "relevance" do they even talk about. And main CTR factor is your meta description, rather than URL. But well, feel free to give it a shot if you want.

EMD/PMDs are thing of the past. Majority of those domains were already abused in the past, plus, it's much easier to overoptimize them. They provide no advantage as compared to brandable domain, only problems. No need to bother with these anymore.

I can confidently say EMD's work much better than earlier. PMD also works.

I would suggest you to look into the fivver links as they are the culprit for rank drop.

Yeah I'd say spammy profile links are more likely to cause you issues that your domain name. Rankings do bounce around a bit after a domain swap but I'd expect it would settle after a month.

Appreciate the advice, only took the leap on EMDs after seeing other sites ranking for the same search terms that no one else is ranking for.
I.e low comp + EMD + little/no backlinks (Might be pbns though) + high search volume.

Sort of messed up in the first post,

site 1:
PMD + $5 fiverr backlinks (30 profile links)
Page 2 for my main keyword.


Site 2:
EMD + Social signals + backlinks (http://www.konker.io/services/8663-link-foundation-100-whitehat-service-great-for-brand-new-sites-230-links)

Most of the backlinks are not indexed yet. Might be a bad move on the package though. Good for pillowing & naked urls since it's an EMD + the niche is a bit of a taboo to get links on (adult niche but sfw + taboo)

Set my main keyword article as the front page. Home page indexed but not ranked, 2 inner page indexed & ranked. It's a thin site.

There are a lot of factors in this, I changed up the main keyword jn to: xxx.com/xxx, instead of xxx.com

I took the articles off site 1 thinking that it's more effective to have a EMD instead, Both domains are pretty new. Content age might be a thing too.

But I'll figure it out, appreciate everyone's help!

I think EMDs power has somewhat been diminished over the years - long gone were the days where when you have a .com EMD, you'd be the authority for that respective keyword - Big G has somewhat diminished this power, and it's just like any other ordinary website out there, trying to build authority over time, to be able to rank for something under that keyword.
I don't find it anywhere faster to get ranked under an EMD as compared to an ordinary website - the ranking time is just about the same.
However, what I do find favorable are country-level EMDs, as apparently the local version of the search engine is favoring these sites instead, for locally searched keywords, using a local IP. A country level domain that has that country level extension, would rank fairly well for the local searches, which I think has big potential, if you are targeting lucrative local traffic in the process.

EMD is mostly used by the events bloggers. Those who are just creating links on the target keywords and their target keywords is also appears in the domain name.
But if you are working on EMD in a right way and focus on the long term blog it gives you a better result as compared to any other blog.
And yes, I'm agree with "EMD's work much better than earlier."

yeah, that's true. Most ecommence search terms + country-level domains rank much easier.
Especially low comp keywords, ranked with just social signals.
Found quite a bit of those through niche research

Yep! That's what i observed as well. Thin content + affiliate link spam just don't work as well anymore.

I still prefer EMDs. While they may not be as strong as they were. People saying there is no difference are simply just repeating crap that they have read. I always find it way easier to rank EMDs.

It really depends on the niche. If you are a law firm versus a drug rehab, your rankings would vary.
