Yes I try to review older posts every few months Updating outdated information and improving the content can sometimes bring steady traffic without creating something completely new

Can be hit or miss, it's best to update if your content must be refreshed regularly otherwise not.

Almost everybody is saying the same thing in different words. Updating is not a matter of frequency; it is a matter of selectivity .
That is where the magic happens bcz you work on pages which have gained traction with impressions or rankings and increase the no. of covered intents rather than just updating the content.
If a page has no traction at all, its update will not affect anything. In such a case, it might be better to create a new page.
