Hi BHW, hope you had wealthy and prosperous year 2013.
Now i don't know if this works for all, but for me living healthy lifestyle helps my IM Ventures: I can focus, think better and get more things done. So i wanted to ask question: Do you take any multivitamins or other dietary supplements? I know that best way to get these vitamins and minerals is to eat vegetables and fruits, but at this time of the year i think it's not enough. Just want to hear opinions of BHW members who too are trying to live healthy.

Happy and wealthy New Year. :)

results of an extensive study released just before xmas showed there were no benefits at all to taking supplements....except in the odd case. Keep up with variety of vegetables and fruit as you are doing and maybe some vitamin C in winter if you feel something coming imho....

supplements and vitamins are a scam. There is no scientific evidence that you benefit from them.

A good analogy is that your body is equal to a cup full of water when you eat food. Add vitamins and that cup overflows and does not add any additional benefits.

    Here is some good info.

I watched a news report on a new study that did experiments to see if multi vitamins do anything.

Conclusion is they don't do a dam thing and it is not a source of nutrients when lacking a balanced meal.

Recent studies that say vitamins are bad for you were funded by the pharmaceutical companies because they don't make money if you're healthy and the vitamins they used in the tests were artificial and were not derived for actual plant sources so that they could intentionally achieve the poor results they got.

I started taking multivitamins from what i heard was the best organic food derived minerals you can get from garden of life and have noticed enhanced memory recall, faster thinking speed & lower stress among countless other benefits.

Taking a multivitamin is a great benefit to health. You don't need the high priced ones either. For men, you'll want to get one with Iron in it.

Of course not. Just one big marketing scam. The one that annoys me the most is VitaBiotics (in the UK), they have aggressive marketing campaigns, mainly in the tube trains. They have a vitamin for every person, man, woman, a whole set for various stages of pregnancy, sport... and so on.. I just think.. WHO buys this stuff?! (Ironically, I make about 30% of my income from websites in this niche! :wiggle: )

How could an SEO marketer fall for such a simple marketing scam?

If you look at who were the ones that funded the bs studies that they did you would see that there was a pharma company behind each one. Why is this? Because the pharmaceutical companies wouldn't make any money off of you if you were healthy & didn't have a condition they could "treat" with one of their many artificial drugs that 1. have known side effects that could kill you 2. are responsible for 300,000 deaths per year in the USA and 3. are the third leading cause of death in the US right next to heart disease and lung cancer. Go do some research instead of blindly believing what the media tells you to believe.

Do bodybuilding related supplements count, too? Because these are the only ones I take. No multivitamin or vitamin c or any other vitamin supplements.

Only supplement I take is protein powder (do you consider that a supplement?), cause I lift. However, I try my best to hit my macros without taking it. Just eat healthy and stay away from the junk twinkie shit.

lol at all the supplement hate. this is what I take

multi vitamin each day - some people say they don't do much but honestly I do feel better and healthier by taking them, and I don't get any branded ones, just cheap essential ones.

pre workout - C4 - this just gives me a great boost and lets me workout harder for longer, ingredients in there have studies to show the effects

intra workout, amino acid - amino build - help me recover faster and makes me feel like I can go longer in my workouts

protein - whey protein - simple cheap protein I take after workout and if I don't have time to have a full meal

creatine - increases muscle contractions so it helps me lift more, also one of the ingredients in C4, and it makes muscles look fuller as it helps retain water in the muscles.

inciner-8 - I just use this when I want more energy and more focus.

I'm not someone who buys into the hype of any supplements I research the ingredients and learn how they work on a biological level. I only have supplements form 3 big brands, cellucor (C4), muscle tech (amino build), and bodybuilding.com (inciner-8) and the only reason is because they were either on offer or are the market leader (C4).

Oh God, I knew that stupid assed study would spread and this threads title screamed it. It's not you OP, just the people who fall for that crap.
I've been taking multivitamins ever since I found interest in nutrition. I believe in getting them from food as well, but here's where shit gets logical.

People like me who lost the ability to get it from actual food, or people on feeding tubes dominantly get them from food-products like Ensure, Nutren and storebought shakes which are SUPPORTED by these same PhD morons. The average fatass Joe won't need a multi but athletes and medical patients do benefit from them.

Remember how coffee was evil but suddenly healthy a couple weeks later in the same magazine? Media needs fresh content, even if 98% of it is bullshit.
Get them from food if you can, fill the gap with a multi if you want. Last year congress tried to take away supplements...this isn't somehow connected....yeah.

Oh, and I'm not talking about stupid Green Monkey Poo Bean extract. This is strictly vitamins & minerals, there's many forms of them and it's OUR job to buy the right ones.

Vitamin D3 - during the winter I don't get practically any sunlight so I decided to go with that. Haven't felt anything positive come out from using them, so probably going to drop them when I run out.

Whey Protein - Take it practically every day after getting home from the gym, but that's only because I'm a big bodybuilding fan and often while working online, I forget to eat.. >.<

Creatine Monohydrate - Google it, has a TON of benefits for bodybuilding and research has also shown that it helps prevent diseases like alzheimer's and a few others. Cheap as hell too.

Used to take a pre-workout as well but soon realized what fucked up chemistry it was so I cut that out..
