Do you still find the Yoast SEO plugin helpful?

I always tell my would-be clients that I will take care of their SEO Yoast plugin on WordPress when they order articles from me. By that, I mean I will fill-out the meta description and keyword boxes and make sure that the green SEO light is on. However, I am not 100 percent sure if you (webmasters and SEO service providers) really find the SEO Yoast plugin helpful or beneficial for you or your clients as far as on-page SEO is concerned.

First off, the reason why I've added this in my selling proposition is that I've noticed most of my clients have the SEO Yoast plugin installed on their WordPress-based websites. So it got me thinking maybe drafting their articles on their website and taking care of the SEO Yoast plugin for each post are things that they would appreciate.

May I ask if you still find the SEO Yoast plugin beneficial for you or your clients? If not, I might just drop it from my sales pitch. Even if many of them have this plugin installed on their sites, if the majority of people who shared their thoughts on this thread said that the plugin has no added value as far as on-page SEO is concerned, I might just "re-educate" my clients about it and point them to this thread.

Friends, do you still find the SEO Yoast plugin helpful as far as on-page SEO is concerned?

I think its ok and probably the way you are using it its pretty good - in my opinion Yoast provides basic SEO optimization and tuition. For experienced users though I dont think yoast SEO provides a massive benefit - some of their metrics are outdated in my opinion.
 
I'm still using it as an guideline since I have always had good results doing so.

In fairness, Yoast SEO is a lot better today than it was last year. I've noticed that the developers behind this plugin have pushed some updates several times already this year. One thing I really like about this plugin is that it supports my other selling proposition: measurement of the content's readability score.

So this plugin does not help win a sale because of the convenience I give to my clients (free posting: who doesn't like that?), I also get to achieve one of my rules in writing: to write something that even a fifth grader would understand (of course, that depends on the topic).

David which plugin you are using for on page optimization ?

There's one thing I don't like about Yoast SEO, though. When it comes to keyword density, my policy is not to go beyond one percent. Anything more than that is already spammy in nature. I checked one of the existing articles of my client and found 2.1 percent keyword density. To my surprise, Yoast SEO showed this message, "The keyword density is 2.1%, which is great; the focus keyword was found 19 times." Mind you, it's an 800-word article.

Seeing it 19 times all throughout the article is already tiring to my eyes. What more if it's a long-tailed keyword? :)

BHW members, what's your personal rule when it comes to keyword density, if any?

I will admit that I still use Yoast SEO for some sites at the moment, as I havnt had time to look for another option. But I am just noticing more and more that its getting a bit outdated.
The density thing below proves the point.

For a lot of my sites now I am not using plugin at all. I think its much more important now to research and find related terms, longtails etc and I dont think there are any plugins out there that can really tell you that stuff at the moment.

What about you?

Yup, density as low as possible - I think 1% or below is good. I think pretty soon keyword density will become almost like keyword meta tags. I think Google are going to start ignoring it and relying on other more cmoplicated factors such as semantic keyword analysis.

When it comes to keyword research, I used to use Google's Keyword Planner, but not anymore. Today, I tell my clients that I will use storybase.com and answerthepublic.com in finding keywords and structuring the outline of the content. These online tools are very effective in terms of finding the exact questions or phrases being typed by people on Google whenever they search for resources related to your topic. Because these tools tell me the questions that people type on Google, it helps me build an interesting outline based on what people are looking for. Isn't that amazing?

Ah, not used all in one SEO for quite a while. I will try it. And yea agree, offpage SEO much more important :-)
 
Hi, davids355! I am not an SEO guy. I'd like to learn from you about this off-page SEO if you don't mind. Is there something in off-page SEO that I can relate with my content writing service? I know link-building is part of an off-page SEO's campaign, but I think that's too much as an add-on to my content writing service. Keyword research is part of an on-page SEO, but that's already an add-on to my service. Thank you for your response.

I'm also using Yoast and i got better results since i start using it ..and change my tags according to yoast.

Thank you for your contributions. I have decided to retain this I-will-take-care-of-your-Yoast-SEO-plugin offer for all my clients who will order articles. Apparently, many are still using this plugin.
 
I use Toast for some of my sites. My affiliate sites are written for green.
I have a site for professionals, in a specific technical field, if I get orange, I am am shocked. It usually involves in-depth articles about subliminal cues(verbal and physical), linguistical analysis, and other fun and exciting topics.
It is ALL about knowing your audience.
