Do you believe that Google "promotes" sites built with WordPress?

In one of the most valuable searches within my niche, I’ve noticed a pattern regarding rankings. It has to do with the software used by the sites ranking in the top five positions—they are all built on WordPress.

The site I’m working on, which is also on the first page, has been developed using our proprietary software, designed with a similar logic to WordPress. However, after monitoring the competition for several years, I’m starting to believe that—whether officially or not—Google seems to "promote" WordPress sites, as if they are inherently more Google-friendly.

Have you observed something similar, or is it just in my head?

It's just because WordPress is SEO-friendly and can be modified as need. PHP sites with better SEO instructions and schema can also work but its hard to learn and update than WordPress.

Wordpress is said to power about half of all websites. In an industry where there many other softwares and players, if a single software has that much market share, it won't surprising to see many websites that are ranked being powered by said software.

Long story short, the reason most sites you see ranking are wordpress is because almost everyone uses wordpress.

WordPress has many different themes and plugins. On this engine, you can make absolutely any site for any task. Search engines do not take into account CMS when ranking. They look at the content and whether it answers the user's question (engagement) or not.

wordpress is more seo-friendly so that could be one of the reasons, otherwise, Google favors fast-loading sites more than the slow ones so make sure your site is loading pretty fast

It's just statistics, most websites run on wp.

yes it does favor wp.

I have built over 10 REACT js websites and none ranks. In fact all are hit by Google.

I think it might be due to SSR vs CSR

Google does not favour WordPress as a platform, but the good SEO practises integrated into WordPress can make the SEO work simpler and more effective, thus giving an indirect advantage in search results.

I don't think so. A very large % of websites are built with wordpress, so it's only natural you will see lots of them in the results

WordPress does seem to have some SEO advantages, but maybe it’s more about how well-optimized those sites are overall. Have you tried making similar tweaks to your site to see if it makes a difference?

Yes, that's what I'm doing. And the theory I mentioned above is based on the fact that, for money pages, Google seems to favor competitive WordPress sites. However, in other rankings, if my site doesn't have the upper hand, then we're pretty much equal.

Of course, I'm not saying that I'm necessarily right—I'm just sharing a theory to hear other perspectives.

100% it is CSR. use nextJs and see the difference.
try to use SSG/ISR and you will see the pages get indexed pretty quick

Wordpress pushes you to the top fast then sends to 0. Custom cms will push you top very slow but will last longer.
