If it too obvious, it will drive less traffic.

As long as it sounds quite realistic, people don't mind.

most viewers don’t hate ai voices - they hate bad AI voices

if it sounds robotic, flat, wrong pacing, weird emphasis, people click off fast
 
I have subbed to so many AI audios and if the content is great and has great audio I just go with it. I'm coming to like audio books and some philosophy videos.

Natural delivery is definitely the goal. Has anyone here moved away from Text-to-Speech and started using Speech-to-Speech? I’ve been recording a rough 'junk' take on my phone and letting ElevenLabs skin it. It keeps my natural pacing/breathing but uses a pro-level voice.
 
if its a tutorial video, people usually just tolerate it if you are actually giving good info
 
Eleven Labs has voices that are indistinguishable from real ones. Most people dislike voices that are made on old neural networks.

I think AI voices can still work, especially for faceless channels, but engagement usually depends more on content quality and storytelling than the voice itself. Are you planning to add original commentary or just narration, and have you seen monetized channels in your niche using AI successfully?
 
AI voices are still not realistic, they always miss punctuation and pauses, it's still one of the AI weak spots that gives AI videos away

Plenty of monetized channels use AI voices—what YouTube cares about is value, not whether you used YouTube automation. Low-effort, repetitive content gets flagged, not simply AI narration. ElevenLabs sounds natural if you tweak pacing and emotion. If budget’s tight, start with AI, focus on strong scripting and editing, then upgrade to a voice actor once revenue justifies it.
