Hi,

I'm in the process of buying a domain name from Spaceship (because they have the cheapest price from what I could find), but - when I was creating my account with them - I noticed a checkbox right before confirming the signup that I think (but I'm not sure) was mandatory for me to agree to in order to get the account, and that checkbox said something along the lines "opt in to avoid having 2FA for the first month".

Which, to me, this reads as "agree to our offer so you can be free for 1 month, because after that we will force 2FA down your throat anyway, that much we value you as a customer, dipshit!"

So, for those who are using / have used Spaceship, can you please confirm whether they will enforce 2FA and / or KYC on me? Because if they do, I'm running as far away from them as I can :)

Thanks!

From the way I am interpreting their writing, is that you will only have to enter the 2fa every 30 days. It is asking to remember your device.

That's pretty funny.

What does 2fa has to do with kyc? 2fa is there to avoid account hack and domain theft after password leaks.
Now don't ask me how password will get leaked.
Passwords will be leaked one way or another.
I am having dozens of domains at Spaceship for last 2 years and had no issue. Transfer in and transfer out is like a breeze.

Yeah I think thread starter is misunderstanding... Thats why I posted the image...
They might do your kyc if you create multiple accounts to game their 1 .com for 2.90 per customer offer.
I have 3 accounts and no kyc so far.

as a neutral, maybe. But for me, who gets triggered whenever I see KYC and 2FA being forced upon me it's infuriating :)

they want my phone number.

In the 90s and the 2000s everyone used all websites without giving away their phone numbers and physical address to sign up, and we could conduct business just fine, which means that this data is not needed AT ALL (and especially not for OUR security), it's just that they want to collect as much data about everyone as possible so they can better target us with ads, or for other nefarious purposes. And I'm not OK with it...

exactly! You can have all security measures that you want, but someone, at some point, CAN hack you if they want to. Everything that's been discovered by a human brain can be beaten / reverse engineered by another human brain that's at least equally as smart as the inventor's brain. And in our world there is always someone more intelligent, more gifted, more talented, and stronger than you, no matter who you are...

it's your business, man. I don't care what everyone does with their life as long as they don't affect mine :)

Thanks for bringing this matter on the forum, I was interested in their prices and was about to register a few domains there, but I prefer paying a bit more and not be asked for shity 2FA after 1 month. All these companies asking for phone, documents, or urine tests, it makes me really pissed off. If nobody bought from these companies, they would stop their shit right away.

amen, brother! The problem, though (as I understood) is that KYC is being forced upon them by the government (ie. by the real criminals), otherwise most of these companies are inconvenienced by these KYC rules as much as we are. So, until the governments fall (not change the laws, but literally get dismantled) we won't get rid of KYC I think...

Yes the real problem are govs and all the nefarious stuff they are pushing right now all over the world.
Nobody should comply, either those companies, nor the customers.
But the thing is, all those big companies are own by entities that are also in favor of these nefarious changes, their CEO are part of shady networks, they are pleased to do this.
