Do Guns Make Us Safer?

no, they don't make anyone safer. It's just an idiotic nostalgy that americans have with them for reasons that I can't understand.

The way I see safety is like this: the people who hold the real power can exterminate EVERYONE (including destroying the planet) at the push of a button, within seconds and without possibility of retaliation, and against such threats guns are useless. And for the few rare, isolated occurrences where guns kill people (in civilized societies I mean)... well, those few occurrences happen precisely because people have access to guns. So, guns don't make anyone safer.

There is simply too much violence in this world, and guns should only be owned by legal authorities (army, police, etc) and absolutely no one else. If most population can (and does!) live happily without owning guns it means that guns aren't needed

Whats the difference between murdering 5 people with a gun and murdering 5 people by running them over in a car?

I'd rather be shot than stabbed 50 times and left bleeding out in the middle of the road like they do in Europe.

Europe is not a single country like the USA, amigo. So, please, do not hate on Europe because many European countries (sadly, not my shitty Romania, too) have a safer way of living than in America. And the stabbing is usually done by uneducated / poor people, just like in the USA. Except that in the USA they don't stab you, they shoot you because they have access to guns and so it's more convenient to them to shoot you.

The point I'm trying to make is that USA, Europe, Asia or Africa it doesn't matter. Some uneducated people, some poor people or psychopaths will always murder you one way or another, no matter where you live, so please don't hate on Europe because I don't like it. Blame it on lack of education and responsibility, the aggressive spirit, the permissive laws or any combination of these 3, not where the crime happens

Lots of places in America are just as safe as places in Europe.

Whats the difference between murdering 5 people with a gun and murdering 5 people by running them over in a car?

1) most murders worldwide are done by guns, not by running people over;
2) it's much easier to pull a trigger than to run people over and part of the civilization process means pacifying the masses and masses can't be pacified when they have access to guns (USA is proof of that);

Lots of places in America are just as safe as places in Europe.

exactly my point! It doesn't matter where you live IF there are strict laws in place, the common folk doesn't have easy access to guns, lives happily, is educated and responsible. That's what I was addressing when I replied to the guy who said that he'd rather be shot in america than be stabbed 50 times in europe.

I think most people nowadays take a wrong approach on weapons

Weapons are not meant to set people "safer".

In fact, citizens with weapons makes the country much more dangerous to live in, as the USA have been heavily demonstrating through all these decades compared to European alternatives.

Indeed, what weapons really offer is the possibility of setting people more independent (not freedom, don't confuse terms).

Being more independent mean, in case a civil war starts or a government starts a riot to set a dictatorship, and most of the army goes to one side, the rest of the citizens won't be fully disarmed and could not respond to this attack.

This is what happened like 80 years ago in my country because arming the citizens, was extremely difficult, with a huge advantage to the group that had the army on their side.

Worse enough, nowadays, the army service is not obligatory in many countries like mine.

So people like me, not only can't have a weapon, but even if they provided me one, I would not even know how to use it efficiently; therefore I would be completely useless in case I had to fight against a couple of soldiers that invaded my territory to set up their dictatorship.

Ultimately, a country without weapons ends a civil war fast and promptly to the side that the army supports. A country with weapons and prepared citizens, will end on a 100-year war.

This is why I'm neither a great fan of weapons, but I cannot be 100% against them.

The safest areas also have some of the highest rates of gun ownership and a homicide by firearm has either never happened or hasn't happened in decades.

Lets just say theres a reason why america has over 10,000 gun homicides every year and Japan who has very strict gun control has under 10 per year

No its not okay.. Imagine everyone on the streets holding a gun
there's laws that must follow regarding that

I rarely like to give my opinion on this subject but i do it anyway. I think not everyone should have access to guns , the video below will show you why

the only thing that i don't like it's the fact that in some countries you are not even allowed to get a taser gun or even getting a pepper spray, so in this case how you are going to secure your familly?

Yes, its very safe when every retard can get a gun besides his happy meal menu then storm gov buildings, schools.

I'll use another poster's quote and add my own little spin to explain my feelings about guns.

"Guns are like insurance, you rarely need one but you'll be glad you have one when you do. Except, of course, like all insurance, it can be used to screw you over worse than the original problem."

So I see guns more like a damned if you don't, damned if you do, so might as well just toss the fuckers out the window.

In countries, where many people own guns, you can't allow yourself the luxury to don't own any. In countries, where people don't own guns usually, you don't really need one. Or at least you don't have to carry it around, wherever you go.

On the other hand, those countries where most people don't own guns, those are usually safer. Violent crimes rates are lower there. There's that too.

Everyone gangster until the ape started shooting :D:D

Guns kill. Knives kill. Keep em to stay safe or throw em away won't make much difference. I think the main issue stems from the deliberate breakdown of society, specifically the deliberate breakdown of the family unit that has been happening for decades now.
