Discord Vulnerabilities: Alternatives?

We have spammers joining regularly PMing our members (also customers) links, scams and porn.

Usually we are who brought them to Discord in the first place, so we are often blamed for this and our reputation is tarnished.

We aren't able to disable PMs for the entire channel which is a huge let down for us.

That being said, are there any suggestions to solve this or alternatives to Discord with similar features? We only use chat (no voice).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Again this is more for support and community discussion for our customers. Thanks

Don't all users have to be paid with Slack?

Never looked into Telegram. We have a large community of 20k+
 
No they have a free option but it's quite limited.
You can also check Mattermost it's like Slack but hosted on you own server
 
Right. I feel like we need something like a 2019 iRC haha
 
I would suggest you to check Matrix/Riot a good alternative

You can install it and mange your own server , you have 100% control of the server
 
Tried Riot which is good but it still allows you to PM anyone in the channel. We need the ability to turn that off channel wide.

Looks like Mattermost is $3.95/user per month.

Not an option with 20k+ members. We need a community chat, not so much a team chat.

No that the enterprise version where they provide support etc... check the open source version it's free
 
I think discord is awesome. There's a way this kind of problem is dealt with on the pornhub server. It involves setting roles and permissions but I cant remember. Just have mods who block and ban the spammers. And of course bots too.

Yeah it works for us in every way until recently. We even have competitors joining and PMing our members manually trying to get them to switch.

We're basically just serving our customers up on a plate and can't believe Discord doesn't have a "Turn off server PMs" which would require them to be friends and solve this completely.

Most forum platforms do... set up a really nice private forum and kill that crap where people are taking advantage of your hard work.

We have a forum but our customers like the ability to chat live vs post and wait. We'd like to keep the functions that have got us here, but protect the customers and our business at the same time.
 
You may want to have something custom coded for a chat to protect your clients.
 
Simple solution. There is free bots that require new users that join to submit/fill out captcha's to read from member list etc. Install that, make everyone fill captcha, problem gone.

We took care of most spam bots with sms verification. It's now mainly these competitors doing it manually that we're concerned with. It's why we need the ability to turn off PMs completely.

From what im hearing, the Discord alternative doesn't currently exist.
 
This is why I think you should have chosen a platform that is more controllable, such as a forum...
