So, here is my thinking.

If sales thread expires. Contact info in sales thread, including domains should be removed from thread.

In this way, seller does not have to pay extra for thread editing ( thread that he/she no longer wants to continue ).

Same time, blackhatworld won't be providing traffic to members that no longer have their sales thread active.

What do you think?

If a BST expires, then it is assumed that the seller does not plan to continue offering that service or has not logged - in to the forum to maintain that service. In both cases
when it expires, the thread is locked letting known that the seller does not keep it active.

If the seller wants to reactivate the thread
I think it is quite fair that If is necessary to edit their contact information or website domain, they must pay the corresponding fee since the team consumes resources to keep them active and clean and is also responsible for closing them if sellers decide not to do it themselves using the report button.

Furthermore It is a good point that you want to make clear, and it is also a good opportunity to let sellers know that if they do not want to continue selling any service, please use the report button with the reason they find appropriate —but it could be as simple as :
"Please close the thread since I don’t want to continue selling"
That way we save many things, resources and time of the staff, mainly.

! It’s fair for both the seller and the forum. No point in keeping contact info up if the thread’s expired. Keeps things clean and avoids sending traffic to inactive offers.

agreed.

Funiki
The thing is, that sales threads are still ranking, show up and etc. Expired sales threads serve as sort of "backlinks" and it still sends traffic to seller that does not renew thread or seizes to offer the services. So, there are multiple ways that someone can take advantage of this.

Domains get resold, contact info changes after some time and etc. and this might expose forum members/visitors to scams as well, when old seller has nothing to do with domain/contact info or etc.

And on top of it, why should the forum be sending the traffic, when person is no longer offering services? it's a loss on forum side too and kinda unfair for other sellers that still operate.

So imho it's worth to make that edit on expired threads. And if they wanna renew it they gotta pay for editing + thread renewal fee as well.

This is my thinking but, dunno I could be wrong.

We're keeping this open to collect more opinions :)

One thing to keep in mind, the majority of the sales threads are riddled with contact details far beyond the opening post. Just to illustrate this with an example, imagine a sales thread that expired (keep in mind they can reopen it within 6 months), however, the history of the sales thread contains 100 pages, 60% of the replies are from the seller, containing their contact information and/or website.

Wouldn't it be better to remove the Sales thread from public view (XenForo deletion type) if the seller hasn't renewed it within 6 months and call it a day? I think these old/inactive sales threads don't really serve a purpose other than giving free traffic to inactive sellers and they often clutter up the search section as well.

Deleting thousands of indexed pages with content is a really bad idea from SEO perspective.

Agreed.

So, just editing that front page should be sufficient.

The rest is out of the scope, since it's gonna be too much to deal with.

Just removing domain + contact info. Should be fine.

I too agree with this. Things need to be kept lean.

Alright, thank you all for the suggestions. The general idea is good and we discussed it in a meeting.

We'll have to think about it a bit more and see how we'd execute it, but once we have a clear plan and process, we'll update this post and the change log to let you know.

For now, we'll close this thread.

Thank you all for the input.
