Different tools = different keyword difficulty?

Hi guys

For my new project I bought a well respected keyword research service from the marketplace to provide me with keyword analysis. The seller provided me with an in-depth analysis of all approx. 800 related keywords of my seed keyword.
On that basis (monthly searches + competition I think I can handle) I choose my main keyword. According to the seller, it has difficulty 20/100. For the seller this means it is a low-competition keyword.
I now just doublechecked with SEOPowersuite and this tool gave me keyword difficulty 35/100 for that same keyword. Keysearch tool also gave me difficulty 37/100. According to both tools, it is a medium-competition keyword.
The seller gave me as an explanation for this that other tools usually give to much credit to DA to determine keyword difficulty, so they are usually overestimated.
Don't know what to believe anymore. Anyone has any thougts on this matter?

First believe in yourself.
As far as different tools are concerned, they give result according to different aspect. All tools are not 100% accurate. I think you should stick to the basics of seo. Try google keyword planner and analyse top 10 sites ranking on first page of the google or whatever search engine you choose, what they are doing.

Manually check your keyword competition is the ideal way to measure difficulty of a keyword.

Keyword Difficulty Checklist (Check top 10 sites for the kw on Google)
1) Keyword is in Title
2) Keyword is in URL
3) Keyword is in Meta Description
4) Check competitor's ranking page (homepage/sub pages)
-If its homepage, your competitor is likely targeting the keyword
-If its subpage, you still need to use ahref and majestic to check this sub page backlinks and anchor text

5) Check competitor's on page optimization for ranking page (Page title, h1,h2,h3,h4 to h6,content targeting keyword?)
6) Use AHREF & Majestic to spy competitor's anchor text (is referring pages for the keyword high?)
-Usually, if a site is targeting the kw, they will likely create more backlinks using this anchor text/keyword

If your keyword appears to have Featured Snippet on serps, i wouldn't waste my time targeting this keyword.

Had a look on the top 10 SERPs already yesterday and my feeling was I must be able to get second place without much effort.
Only first place site seems optimized for and targeting the same keyword.

Just noticed that not only the difficulty is different, but also huge difference in monthly searches. For same keyword monthly searches:
sellers analysis: 2900
Keysearch: 1600
Google keyword planner tool: 1k-10k
The same kind of differences in monthly searches I find for my other (long-tail) keywords. Strange...

Personally, I think that metric is just a metric, that indicate something that's all. Trust in yourself, look at your competitors on each keywords and just do it !

Each tool gives different volume, the best i use is Google keyword planner but unfortunately, they are greedy now so you cant view exact search volume unless you spend on campaigns. OR use rank tracker like proranktracker/serpbook. They will analyse search volume based on keyword planner. Is accurate as far as i am using now.

Hello scalli,

I am here with one great suggestion may be, I think. Try the Google Trends where you can find the trends of the keywords that you want to see. You can see the keyword need results in graph format. So you can decide which keyword is searched more from the keywords that hold in your hand. Also, it shows the related queries, that is the related keyword competency shows in such order.

After I install this extension, I noticed something in the trend results. That is it shows the keyword search volume and CPC per keyword that I have searched. Also, it shows the details of each keyword in the related query side too. It's awesome. Nice share @spider4567.
