Hello BHW friends,

I would like to know your experience about comments VS SEO.

I'm thinking about start an experiment to have a lot of comments in some articles and check if those articles up positions in Google or not.

Example:

A) 1 article with 20 comments

B) Another article with 0 comments

A should up higher in SERPs than B or comments are not a SEO point?

What is your opinion about this?

Daily activity on your website will definitely boost rankings but it will not take you to the top. For getting higher rankings create quality links rather than making comments on your site.

Longterm its better. Adds "fresh content" to the page which Google loves and gets it reindexed a lot more. Short term, its not going to rank better over a month long period, but drip comments in on occasion over 3-6-9 months and you'll see a difference.

just start your own experiment, and tell us the result you achieved.

Guys, its this simple. Fresh content. Comments that are dripped in slowly give a page constant FRESH CONTENT. This is an advantage. End of story. Works like magic on your moneysite blogs.

Problem is pagination matters..

The data is already available in Google:

site:blackhatworld.com inurl:"/seo/"

  • first post at #6 ... not looking like a great factor already
  • first post at #6 has 21 pages of comments
  • second post at #8 has 45 pages of comments
  • third at #9 had 59 pages of comments
  • fourth at #10 has 46 pages.

So on page 1 posts with comments appeared on bottom half of page.

  • The first post on page 2 has 155 pages of comments.

Not looking good as a factor... now if all the comments were on one page.... then maybe.... but with paginated comments... no dice.

Comments might help with some longtail keyword rankings if they are relevant to your content.

I think Blog commenting has a lot something to do on page ranking. Since a lot of your visitors are commenting on your post, it's quite likely that a lot of their comments are going to reflect on your keywords. Blog comments or forum comments are often featured higher in search results. Just make sure your article is useful and well-written.

Adding comments on your own post is a good way to update the pages. Its not possible to update blog post regularly with fresh content. So better to use some comments to update it. But no idea how much impact it will create. I am thinking same to do some experiment with one my niche site. Lets see and also let us know your update :)
