Custom Skype username?

Good morning Guys,

I hope you’re all well?

I have looked everywhere and cannot find a working solution to getting a custom Skype username other than making an email address and having “live:emailaddress.com”

Is it just not possible anymore?

Install old version from the site filehippo and then create a account with the desired username.
Later on, update your Skype and you'll have a Skype with your username

I was looking for a similar solution while back and gaveup after sometime.

Last time i checked, the mobile app worked for this purpose. The older desktop version trick might be better though.

I tried this and it takes you to a Microsoft page to make an email first (or log in) then forces you to use the email address as your username smh.

I tried all the older android apps in chronological order.

None of the version which allow you to set username are working (they throw up a network error). Will try the desktop app and report back.

What about Filehippo who redirects to Skype.com official site when you try to get an Older version? No Outcome.

I tried downloading many different older versions but they all say "Not working close program" etc.

Anyone got a specific version working?

I have tried and the link attempted to be downloaded. I do not know whether it will be ready for an installation or not. I will check this in my VM soon when i get some time.

I’ve tried so many sites, all the various versions of Skype seem to fail at the “Checking username availability” part smh.

Also saw this explaining that MS are stopping all older desktop versions of Skype, which could mean a potential solution via mobile.

Zzz what a headache..

Microsoft has changed Skype a lot in the recent months. I would prefer using the latest version.

I just don't like having my account linked to microsoft. And I really don't like having live in front of the username in the new accounts.

Same here but i think they are doing force so it is mandatory now.
