I'm wanting to add a drone to my home security & surveillance project, and wondering who here might have some experience in this area.

What I want:
A quality drone that has live HD video/nightvision & camera with 360 degree view.
Drone to run surveillance routes on a schedule
(Example: 5 minute rounds every 30 minutes) with onboard and streaming capture.
Data should be encrypted in case of capture or crash situations.
Onboard cellular capabilities are desired but not necessary.
Though extravagant, assault capabilities for the bitch neighbor would be nice =)

Anyone with experience or input is appreciated.

Budget: $1,500-$2,000 but I'm open

1. Right now the best bang for buck in the Drone world is undoubtedly the DJI Phantom. I have seen comparative footage from other rival drones, including the one from GoPro - but almost all require manual intervention for focus and exposure management. The DJI camera does it all on its own.

2. You can use a combination of Course Lock and Waypoints to achieve this on a DJI.

3. The DJI GO, the app that communicates with your phantom has multiple layers of encryption. However, to save the data, you can apply additional stages of encryption at storage level.

4. It communicates with your phone. Most drones come equipped with a camera resting on a cymbal and communicate remotely with a cellular device.

5. Well, I recently saw someone change a bulb using a DJI drone, the rest would entirely be upto your creativity.

The Phantom 4 retails for $1199 - you can get a refurbished unit from the manufacturer for $899

Source - Own a DJI Phantom 3 and use it a lot on rides etc.

Was looking at that one now actually. Think I will indulge. Thank you

If you're just getting into drones, might I recommend Casey Neistat's Youtube channel. He's a daily vlogger who recently got into the world of drones. He does pretty informal reviews on most drones along with comparisons.

Being a Youtube celeb, he's also one of the first people to get access to a lot of products from drone companies and ends up using them all.

strange why are you looking for such surveillance is there any kids around your home is disturbing you :P

Don't you need permission, in the UK you need permission from the authorities

Look at the Cheerson CX-20.

It will run through GSM and run circuits via GPS co-ordinates.

Unlike the DJI phantom it's also opensource, it runs arducopter (from memory) which is arduino based, so anyone with C++ skills can program it to do anything.

And it's like half the price... which is nice if you're just going to be playing around with it.

The phantom will not support any of this.

That's wicked cool!

They're active on ProductHunt. Got funded by General Catalyst and got busy with the product.

I actually really really like what they're doing, except I live in a city and my property is not large enough to justify buying a drone.

What about weather, if it`s windy your drone can easily crash, also I don't see a point in running on schedule someone can easily come to your house when your drone is not flying. You should put sensors around your property and then program your drone to take off when motion is detected and follow people around until they leave your property or you send drone on station.
