Debt doesn't exist, it's simply an 'IOU' x amount of hours of labor. That's all it really is, it's not a problem and it doesn't create problems. It's just the volatile flow of resources making it from one point to another, money is just an idea -but since it's got a piece of paper that is untraceable, people objectify it having value. Because we put a value on it rather than trading it barter, which was difficult.
It's slightly ignorant that you outright claim that currency is a problem, currency just gives two people the ability to trade and shouldn't be thought of anything else but that. Wealth is the amount of days you can survive without having to sell goods or services. Money has advanced and played a big role in technology and science and has gotten us to actually work together in the forms of corporations and other business entities. Say you wanted to build a house in this day and age without money, you would have to create it from scratch and no one had entitlement to anything and formal ownership wasn't enforced. You would have to cut down the wood, or create clay or mud bricks one by one, you would have to shave all the bark off the tree and redefine it one by one, or cook those bricks one by one. You would have to do everything by yourself and in the meantime there is no where else to stay or go or live, it could take years to build your own house and remember you have to also get your own food and meet your basic needs.
What we need to do is focus our current system on using modernizing capitalism and philanthropy so that we have businesses that are looking to create sustainable food, building supplies and other necessities that we take for granted and new clean-green tech, so we don't damage the environment and can start undoing past damage. The real problem we face today is what we define as 'needs' and 'wants', people have for some reason, defined electricity, internet, communication as a need even if it means there food quality or quantity suffer. We need to prioritize and then re-elect our needs and values, and not what the consumer media defines them as. Before making bold claims that you've based on little information that you received from media that currency is the problem, or join the bandwagon of 'oh it's the rich-poor gap that is the problem' then you need to look again. We just need to distribute necessary commodity's such as food, and correctly house people appropriately with access to water and other facilities for a start, then modernize education and job opportunities and make them more equal.
It's not the currency, it's the distribution of resources that is the problem -and billionaires and other entrepreneurs, the people with the money, are the one's doing the most good. Richard Branson, Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Carlos Slim etc etc.
I hope that gives you new insight on how to make an effective difference, although you probably should of done more research you are correct that change does need to happen -and slowly people like you and I are beginning to believe in it too.
