Currency is not the future? Currency only creates problems.

Yeah i've seen that video. Hell that would be great if everything was like that. But its not. Unless there is some mega emergency like we learn the planet will die in a few years so we have to all organize around one thing, like build a spaceship, and colonize another planet to save out species, then people gonna just keep doing what they've always done.

I just want zombies to be real, as at least it would be great fun running round with your friends in abandoned cities killing them. But thats just me.

What if those zombies were your family members? Still so keen on it being real?

Well i would have to consider the overall importance of humanity in general rather than my own feelings for my family. I've got no problem with that. Heads would roll! :)

No it does not have to be like this, thats what the Zeitgeist Movement entails!Sure your cormfortable now with money/debt/imaginary stuff in ur bank account but the whole money system will indeed collapse..u might not be there to witness it but ur grandchildren are the ones who will feel the full force!

but ur grandchildren are the ones who will feel the full force!

I guarantee they won't.
I got myself snipped, as i don't want children, to just add to more waste, buying more shit, creating more money. Having to borrow from banks and create more debt, and just keep the cycle going.

If everyone done that, it would collapse.

I've at least got the balls to my contribution in. not sure my balls count anymore though :)

The only thing that ever improved humans lives is scinece and technology not some imaginary thing called money!

O RLY?

And how do you think science and technology gets created and comes to your house? By the elves in the North Pole and the "Tooth fairy courier"?

Maybe in some nightmare. But in reality, technology 's source and spread is capital accumulation. That 's it. That 's the secret sauce.

Open a history book and you will find advances in science scattered through the history. The steam engine: more than 2000 years ago, batteries: more that 2000 years ago. Yet no scientific progress went massive before capital accumulation was possible. And no such big bang of science ever happened, before capital accumulation was possible.

Welcome to capitalism, the reason the average expectancy of living for your generation is not 30 years.

Debt is resolved by insolvency. Life is full of risks and currencies are just a small part of it.

lol science and tech. is created?Anyway what am simply pointing out is that no one paid the likes of Marie Curie or Albert Einstein to contribute and even if they did its not worth some shitty nobel prize! Its sad though because only people with $$ get to enjoy there work which is what i think ur trying to point out in ur post.Speaking of histroy did u know how scientist were oppressed and persecuted..some even burned to steak or guilotined during the Roman times...and to think here we are enjoying there work!

Ridicule me all u want but the fact of the matter is that we can indeed create abundance with the current technolgy + science. We have enough resources and there is no need for some artificialy created debt!Money if anything only creates more inefficieny and wastes resources!

If it wasn't for money, what they both found wouldn't be even in your world today.

No, it 's not created, it pre-exists in the dreams of giants and it 's coughed up in their sleep. Then humans in white uniforms sneak by and steal it. :D

Let me guess, you have no idea about science, right?

Its sad though because only people with $$ get to enjoy there work which is what i think ur trying to point out in ur post.

Yes, produce first, buy later. That 's the idea. No work, no monies; unless someone wants to give you his. Does it get simpler?

Speaking of histroy did u know how scientist were oppressed and persecuted..some even burned to steak or guilotined during the Roman times...and to think here we are enjoying there work!

Of course they were, because power was on the hands of the random elite. It wasn't until capital accumulation (read: freedom) came by, that it was possible for science to find funds via getting applied to commerce. Do you think you 'd have your lightning fast computer if lots and lots and lots of people haven't been buying those slow snail pcs in the past? Research require huuuuge amounts of money. Did I say huuuuge? It 's huuuuuuuge actually.

What do you guys think? I'm in my early adulthood but when I think of the future I can only hope for the well being of the world. If so much has changed in the past 100 years then just as much can change in the next 100 for better or for worse. I can only wonder. I'm kind of worried about future generations and what will happen, after all I want to have kids you know. Money at the end of the day only creates problems, it creates debt, and the way things look at this time, it's hard to see a bright future unless something changes. It's funny how many ignorant people there are that give value to those things in life that are completely unnecessary. It's hard to see a sustainable future the way society is going. At the end of the day I feel like it's our job to make sure that future generations won't be having to fix our mistakes.

Debt doesn't exist, it's simply an 'IOU' x amount of hours of labor. That's all it really is, it's not a problem and it doesn't create problems. It's just the volatile flow of resources making it from one point to another, money is just an idea -but since it's got a piece of paper that is untraceable, people objectify it having value. Because we put a value on it rather than trading it barter, which was difficult.

It's slightly ignorant that you outright claim that currency is a problem, currency just gives two people the ability to trade and shouldn't be thought of anything else but that. Wealth is the amount of days you can survive without having to sell goods or services. Money has advanced and played a big role in technology and science and has gotten us to actually work together in the forms of corporations and other business entities. Say you wanted to build a house in this day and age without money, you would have to create it from scratch and no one had entitlement to anything and formal ownership wasn't enforced. You would have to cut down the wood, or create clay or mud bricks one by one, you would have to shave all the bark off the tree and redefine it one by one, or cook those bricks one by one. You would have to do everything by yourself and in the meantime there is no where else to stay or go or live, it could take years to build your own house and remember you have to also get your own food and meet your basic needs.

What we need to do is focus our current system on using modernizing capitalism and philanthropy so that we have businesses that are looking to create sustainable food, building supplies and other necessities that we take for granted and new clean-green tech, so we don't damage the environment and can start undoing past damage. The real problem we face today is what we define as 'needs' and 'wants', people have for some reason, defined electricity, internet, communication as a need even if it means there food quality or quantity suffer. We need to prioritize and then re-elect our needs and values, and not what the consumer media defines them as. Before making bold claims that you've based on little information that you received from media that currency is the problem, or join the bandwagon of 'oh it's the rich-poor gap that is the problem' then you need to look again. We just need to distribute necessary commodity's such as food, and correctly house people appropriately with access to water and other facilities for a start, then modernize education and job opportunities and make them more equal.

It's not the currency, it's the distribution of resources that is the problem -and billionaires and other entrepreneurs, the people with the money, are the one's doing the most good. Richard Branson, Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Carlos Slim etc etc.

I hope that gives you new insight on how to make an effective difference, although you probably should of done more research you are correct that change does need to happen -and slowly people like you and I are beginning to believe in it too.

OP, if you are worried about the world you children and grandchildren grow up in, you can change your own world to suit your needs.

A few places, nearby to where I live, thrive on a community generated lifestyle, wherein the need less and less money to survive and prosper. Arcosanti and Avalon. They still need to generate money for things they can't make or control, but they're close a modern lifestyle and use barter systems.

My advice is to save, buy only portable property that has solid value (gold& other precious minerals, valuable antiquities), saving until you can afford a huge land parcel. Turn that into the family spot and nurture the lifestyle you choose, free from most debt. It's my spouse and my own personal goals.

Granted I really do want to buy alot of unneccesary things that generate waste! Good thing the ole lady manages the monies...

EDIT: I guess that.guy and I were writing at the same time, but I just wanted to give him thanks for a decent post, since I've already given my daily allowance. Anyone who has any experience in development knows that it takes significant resources to build.

If there was one thing that i could do that would really be off benefit to the world, it would be to delete this thread. I have promised myself never to get involved in another thread like this, unless i first hammer a rusty nail through my tadger.

Look here dude...money was good for the last hundreds of years but we are in 2013 for crying out loud!We can fucking get energy from splitting or fussing atoms.I can post this message from anywhere in the freaking world! Why bother with some meaningless thing called money? It just doesnt make sense!Anyway, the entire thing was a ticking time bomb from the very begining...it was bound to fail with the crappy rules that we wrote!Automation will face out jobs in the coming years and the entire system will collapse on its own.Whether u like it or not change is inevitable..a moneyless world is indeed possible with science and technology!

Serious?
Who's gonna pay for the automation? Obviously we could create all types of things to accomplish the menial tasks, but at what cost?

Say I could buy two automated robots: one would raise crops and the other build livable structures.
How much would I pay... excuse me, how many hours of my service would I have to barter to obtain such things?

Its not a question of do we have the money...the question is do we have the resources.I could give u 1 billion dollers and drop u off on an island with no fresh water,no clean air and no fish in the water. What will u do,eat the money?Resources are the most important thing. If they had a way of charging for the air u breath..u bet they wuld!I dont quite get ur second question but if u want to get familiar with a resource based economy i suggest u check out the venus projuct!

Its not a question of do we have the money...the question is do we have the resources.

This isn't even Econ 101. Resources by themselves are worthless. To get value, they require human action. That human action is the whole point of study in economics.
