I read the other day that a 30 year old woman died from a heart attack. They said that she had high level of caffeine in her system. They said that she drank 2 gallons of coke every day and smoked 30 cigarettes each day. I drink AT LEAST 2 gallons of dr. pepper each day (if not more) along with 32-48 oz of redbull, and sometimes a 5 hour energy booster, and I smoke 2 full packs of cigarettes daily. (I am 32 years old) I know this is unhealthy, but I never really gave it too much thought until I read that, then I started thinking about my little girls and what they would do without me. Every time I go to the doctor, my blood pressure is a little high, but I never gave that much thought because I always smoke a cigarette right before I go in.

Now I know I should quit, and start living healthier, and I want to do it for my kids (if nothing else) but, dr. pepper and cigarettes are 2 addictions that I have not had the will power to kick yet. Any ideas or methods that really work for kicking a habit?

Yes. You need to exercise. You're on the right side of 30 so you can get your fitness, and lungs back. Leave it another 10 years and your chances will dimish.

I'm talking about running until you can't go any further, not walking the dog for 10 minutes. Aim for three times a week. Start small and increase month by month - soon you will enjoy it. The first few weeks will be tough, but you will see a rapid improvement. If you can't run for whatever reason, join a gym. Honestly you will feel way better, and have much more motivation and energy to succeed in life. You might not quit the cigs completely, but you'll certainly smoke less. Which is a start. Good luck.

My wife started getting kidney infections from drinking too much coke so we both switched to water a couple years ago. We have two 3 gallon bottles and get them filled with good water for $1.00 everytime we go to Walmart. Now we love water and I hardly ever drink anything else. If you can stand it for a couple weeks or a month then you'll realize how disgusting sweet carbonated drinks are. I can sometimes tolerate a sprite or 7-up but that's about it, and I prefer it to be on ice so that it doesn't taste like pure carbonated sugar gunk. Drinking a lot of water over time will do this to you but it's a good thing.

We're both smokers too so that's our next habit that we need to kick :D

Holyshit man ! youre drinking 7-8 litres of soda a day ?! plus the redbull and other stuff.

Bro that is ridiculous , you gotta cut that shit out asap.

not intending to flame you, but man people wonder why they have are overweight/no energy when they pull this stuff.

EDIT: I do take alot of caffine perday about 600 mgs with Ephedrine and Asprine , but I do it for weightloss and energy for cardio , so it can be used in a positive way

You do have a high risk for a heart attack. However, keep in mind, that an unhealthy lifestyle is not always the reason for heart attacks. The biggest factor are your genes.
There are people, who smoke 2 packs since they were young and they are 80 years old, now.
If anyone in your family has had or is having heart- or blood-pressure related problems, or even died of a heart attack, well, then you should improve your style of living immediately. Also, I recommend asking a doctor for help, since, you know, we really can't give professional advice..

kind regards,

I don't think that was flaming, just constructive motivation. Thanks :D

My dad died of a heart attack at 48, and my grand father on my moms side died of a heart attack too, but he was much older

It is not just the nicotine and caffeine, but brother you are taking too much of sugar without realizing it. When I checked the following picture, I gave up drinking all sodas. Now my favorite drink is plain water. Wake up before it is too late.

Exactly! Even if you drank just one liter of Coke you would have to exercise for hours!
Just stop before it is too late and start drinking more water. All the sodas are bad for your health.
Personally, I haven't drunk coke for over a year now!

I believe that drinking natural orange juice and having sex daily could replace your coke and cigarettes with the better results

Lol, I have the sex thing pinned, but maybe the orange juice will help :D

I was drinking sodas every day for a year. Now I am back on water.

Water looked tasteless at first. But get through a week of it and you won't look back.

I did love my sodas but I've never been a fan of energy drinks. Most coffee drinkers know that one or two buzzes you enough for the day. So when I see youngsters (our age and younger) throwing back Red Bull and other energy drinks like it was water I'm shocked.

I once had a breakfast with a CEO when I joined the company. Me and everyone else ordered coffee. This dude ordered a non-caffeinated "herb tea". This guy had the smarts, no stimulant shit.

I drink one cup of tea every morning and that's it. Enough caffeine for me, does the trick and that much isn't bad for you. But tons of sugar and tons of caffeine is no good.

For quit smoking, I recommend reading Allen Carr. Check it out, you will be cured.

My biggest addiction I still need to conquer is sugar. That refined shit is so bad for you, it's crazy.

I smoked around 20 per day and drank about 6-8 cans of redbull per day plus a few cups of coffee until last week. I thought I needed it to carry on working hard. I THOUGHT WRONG!!

Last week I was in work and started getting chest pains. I soon became out of breath. I went straight to the hospital where they told me it wasnt a heart attack but I would be due to the amount of caffeine I has in my body. I explained to them, how many redbull I have in a day and they basically told me that if I carry on much longer, I WILL have a heart attack. And im only 26!!

I have since cut right down on them and smoke 10 per day at the most. I have a son on the way in 2 months so I think thats more important that anything else...even money

I will check that out, thanks :D

I know that feeling, I have 8 kids, and I want to see them when they make it this far in life. Hopefully I can come up with the will power to quit.

You need atleast 1 gram of nicotine to kill yourself that I have heard. That is why they do not recommend that you smoke while you have a nicotine patch on.

quitting is tough but can be done, cigs and sodas both. If you decide to come off the caffeine make sure you do it slowly if not you get massive headaches from the withdrawal (or at least I did). I still have a daily coke but not like it was at one time

I'm a physical therapist and i think she died because of cigarettes + sugar + phosphorus. That destroyed her blood vessels. Caffeine itself is not a problem in my opinion.

I know you have been a long time poster here and took a break. I really do hope you watch out for your health. I was trying to think how to help and I came across this thread so maybe it could be of some motivation
