Contextual links are placed within the main content of a page, making them more natural and SEO-friendly. On the other hand, sidebar links, appear in the side sections of the page, which can look less organic. Both can help with rankings, but their effectiveness may depend on the placement and niche. What's you experience - do contextual or sidebar links work for you?

Judging by my internal links, contextual links work better.
And the same applies to backlinks you buy... that's why I would never buy a sidebar link, well unless it is from a site with a lot of traffic.
My take is... contextual links are better for SEO but sidebar links are better for exposure and traffic.

Contextual links have worked better for me overall because they feel more natural to both users and search engines They tend to pass more relevance since they’re surrounded by related content Sidebar links still help especially for sitewide exposure but they don’t carry the same weight and can look spammy if overused In most niches contextual is the safer and stronger bet..

What i noticed about Sidebar Links for 2nd Tier Search Engines like Bing and Yandex they consider sidebar backlinks as multiple backlinks from same side for example if there are 100 blog posts and when you open each blog post if sidebar shows for each blog post then it will conside 100 Backlinks from same website but for Google I guess sidebar links doesn't matter and contextual works better

Exactly! someone mentioned above that if a site has strong organic traffic coming to its homepage, then buying homepage links can be worth it.

Otherwise, contextual links are usually enough. Plus, homepage links are typically sold on a monthly or yearly basis, while contextual links often stay live for over a year sometimes permanently.

If you’re focused on rankings, contextual links almost always outperform sidebar ones. They pass stronger topical relevance and tend to stay indexed longer.

Google treats them as part of the actual content flow, which gives them more weight. Sidebar links can work, but mostly for traffic or homepage authority if the site has real organic visitors.

They're often sitewide, so they dilute quickly unless placed carefully. If your niche is sensitive or you’re building tier 1 links, stick with contextuals. Sidebar can still be useful in PBN rotation or for exposure boosts, but not for core SEO weight.
