Hey Hey,

I'm starting a Business Site/ Blog. It is for the German Market but my Brandname is an English 2 Word Name and I register a .co Domain because the .com was, I think registered from Namecheap. (so blocked)

After a couple of weeks I recheck for .com Domains (unfortunately missed the 88cent promo:weep:)
and saw my desired .com Domain was now free for a register. I grab it.

So now I'm not sure, I heard that .co nowadays is well known for cooperated or company, but I'm not sure in SEO terms what would be the best solution.
.co or better with the TLD .com or which also comes into consideration .de

I need your pieces of advice :)

I will suggest to go with .com for sure. It is because it is well known and the first extension which any visitor or your customer would think. Even if you are developing your website on .co or .de, still in my opinion it is better to keep the .com domain and point it to your main domain.
 
@TomBran You mean, using the .com and if someone from Germany comes to my site I refer them to the .de.
If so, are there any downsides refer someone to the next Domain regarding page speed or Authority for the Domain etc. ?

No, Google themselves have several TLDs and gTLDs and redirect the traffic based on the country. You should be fine with it.
 
If .com.available, go fir .com. Also you may consider buying .co and .de, just do redirect to .com

If you want your main domain to be .de, then you can point your .com domain to .de so every visitor who types .com version of your website in browser goes straight to your website instead of going to someone else (who buys the .com if you don't). It is totally up to you and the situation whether you want to get .com version of your domain or not. But I personally always prefer .com domain on any other, and if I need to make websites with domains like .de then I always buy and point .com to .de to make sure that no visitor is lost due to not having .com. Pointing .com to .de will not make any difference in SEO I guess.
 
According to SIA (SEO Intelligence Agency) .org are very good for SEO and ranks faster.
You can get .co, .com and .de and simply 301 redirect to .org and it will also give some positive effect to your company/organisation in the eyes of google.

Do you have experience with that tactic? If I understand you correctly your approach is actually using a .org Domain and redirect any other Domain to the .org?
I was looking for the best Domain for my Site and ended up with 4:D

I'm confused, can anybody confirm this method.

Yes I have used this tactic on a single page website and it was ranked on #6 for too long and then I didn't work on it. The competitiveness of the keyword was lil less than medium.

It's a good Idea indeed, I will take this in consideration for other projects, but I plan my main Business Page and for an obvious reason I want to make this clean and solid as possible.

I think I will use .com and think about redirecting german traffic to .de

What you think about the Idea open a Google Business Website and using my .co Domain for it. I can use this Site for Social Links and the .com Domain on it. Would this have a positive effect on my rankings and relevance?
 
It all depends on your purpose. If you want to rank organicly you better have a domain ending specific to the country. Believe me or not, people are always afraid to click on links which do not sound familiar to them. Even google shortener is Crazy for them.
Next thing is "geo" targeting get you a host in germany. And inspect the others who are on top.
 
I hate it:D I jump back and forwards. I've looked again at what is the industry standard for my Business and the ones with the highest rankings are using .de Domains (they also use an English Domain name:D I think we got used to Denglish)
I will host my Site on a German Server but US company :)
 
Come on if it's an english word, surely you have yo go for a dotcom, right?
 
If you go for .de you'll have to provide an Impressum, Datenschutzerklärung and other legal stuff in your footer. Gonna rank easier since it's gonna be for Germans, though.

Can't believe some of the advice here these days. I'd go for the .de, which I'm pretty confident would rank easier. As within the UK I find .co.uk ranks far easier than .com. I also used to have German sites which ranked easier with .de
