Definitely something needs to be done. I have noticed a downhill slide even in the short time that I have been a member. To many people joining for the wrong reasons. How many more threads do we have to endure of people looking for free software, trying to get their competitors kicked from the serps or my favorite chiming in on every thread with useless information just to bump their post count.

I don't agree with closing it to the public, all forums constantly need new blood. One forum I belong too charges different levels of membership. the higher the membership the greater access to various parts of the forum.

You could offer existing members a lifetime membership for a reasonable price. New members would have to pay an annual fee based on their membership level

Paying a membership fee for information you can find all over the internet is just plain stupid. All it will do is make people take information they find here and post it on their own blog (or new BH Forum) claiming it their own, or still selling it over on other forums. They do this anyway, and paying $9-$19 to do it wont stop them.

Saturation is inevitable, unless you create something and take the information to the grave, but even then someone who sees your site might know exactly what your doing.

Then there are places like thevault, where you can find info for free if you upload enough.

The people who don't make shit for money but want to pay a membership fee expecting to make money will probably be very disappointed.

But, if it does end up being a membership site I guess I'll spend a LOT less time reading and more time applying what I know :)

Either way, I don't think it'll hurt me, but rather see it stay free..

edit:
If you're going to charge a fee for members, and you actually think paying money to read stuff here is actually worth money why not make it some ridiculously high price so leech/am/'noobs'/'parasites' DON'T spend the $9 to do what they do anyway?

is it cause its a make money online forum and the whole point is to bank? all it will do is cause an illusion of privacy, and a bunch of angry people.

I think we should ABOLISH the download section. I believe that all the useless posters that basically don't make money come from there.

I also believe that the humongous amount of useless posts and people (that all come here because of the download section) make people that have something to say reluctant to share.

Seriously, all the downloads are useless! Only 1% of the shared software are actually useful, and all of those can be found elsewhere.

Warez are like an idiot magnets.

I would like bhw to be more about making money then trolling.

close the forum for new signup, limit the user with few post like me, I love bhw, I don't want the forum closed like vanillashare.

I`m against a fee, but wouldn`t mind to make it harder for people to get here. What about an application for membership? One of the private torrent sites that I`m in has such a system. It`s an invitation only site, but I still had to send them an application and answer a few generic questions. Nothing special, but it takes time for people to write something. Might be a good idea to keep the scammers and not so serious people out.

I'm new here but my 2 cents:

Closing the downloads section (and make in invisible to the public) would weed out a lot of the useless threads. It will remove the users who come over just to download.

This also would be a great idea considering a LOT of the shit in there is infected with something anyway, and shouldn't be there.

I voted to keep it open although I would not mind paying a fee at all as the content here is useful. The main reason I voted know is I believe it would kill the community and hinder sharing. If people have to pay then they are much more likely to keep things to themselves. As someone else said I think the Warrior Method would work well charge a one time fee for some forums such as the CS and member downloads, then leave other ones open so anyoen can learn.

Having a fee will not stop Aff Managers or similar anyway as they will jsut pay it to have access. The invite idea also seems feasible.

lol what kinda questions do you recommend lol?

well lol there's lol plenty of questions that lol could be asked... lol

it might help weed out those who haven't a clue and end up plastering the site with basic questions.

there's plenty of seo quizzes out there already;

http://www.seomoz.org/seo-expert-quiz/take

you'd just need to include a wider range of BH questions.

I think a hybrid solution of leaving most of BHW open for viewing and free for joining while making others pay would work best all around. Move all the software downloads to a pay-only section. While I can see where the BHW admins might have an "ethical" problem of charging people mainly for the ability to download warez, a lot of useless and really ignorant posts seem to happen in the Download sections and the kind of members it is attracting these days isn't good for the quality or longevity of BHW. Reading about a bunch of leeches bitching about why a file is uploaded to wherever or asking repeatedly for configuration help is real tiresome.

Downloads are great if you are using them for the purpose of MAKING MONEY in some way or even evaluating whether to buy a quality script. Downloading shit you have no intention of using and then being a total jackass enough to post "hey, what does this program I just downloaded do anyway?" is not anything to do with making money, it's juvenile "i got some software for FREE...HAHAHAHAHAHA!"

Well, I like the idea of closing the forum, and yes perhaps paying even, if the the subs were of a affordable price.

The only problem I see is & it happens with everything really.. BHW would no longer be a forum, it would a business concern, and so it would be ran like one - even if it runs to a profit now, its not really a business as, the money comes from donations and people paying to sell using this service, and rightly so, its a community none the less.

In the twilight of all of these changes, some bright spark would open up a new "Black hat forum" that worked on the same premise as this one, and so a new cycle begins.

Invites are the way forward imo, invites placed in the hands of the right people, I.E VIPS.

Most of the software that I want is either on the no share list or is subscription based so I don't really care what happens to that section. Anything else can be shared via PM if badly needed in the future. As I said in another post, I didn't know people actually bought all those ebooks etc before I became a member here and saw all the noobs begging for them.

Paying a fee wouldn't enhance my stay here one bit (in my mind) so I certainly wouldn't pay a subscription fee. And to be honest, the Executive VIP's getting in for free isn't such a "reward" in my mind.

A couple of my suggestions (some may be repeated):

- i would like the forum open to new members BUT if it goes the other way, make new members pay a one time membership fee to join from here on in (under $25) and give existing members a few free memberships to hand out if they want (with restrictions)
- delete all accounts that have been inactive for more than 21 days
- delete all accounts that have less than 2 posts (without announcing it and causing shitty posts)..then they pay to join if they want
- make the downloads section a time based thing (member longer than 3 months)

There is room to trim the fat here but for the most part, you can ignore most of the people that don't belong and do something about the downloads and most of the probs are solved.

I second this solution. I do not like the idea of people having to pay for a membership just because most of the people that come here are looking to earn money and don't have anything to give away. Maybe you should add some of the subsections to jr vip. That way you have something with which people can start and then eventually when they make some money they can donate to become jrvip.

Close it, just because it's blackhat and it's must have privacy...

uhm..there are so many "newbs" in here it doesnt really matter.
Also, there are already "established" well known marketers in here right now...looking out for who spreads their WSOs and such.
You wouldnt gain *anything* from closing BHW, really. My $0.02 Keep it as it is.

Lock the forum up and impose a fee.

There are a lot of useless posts which is depreciating the quality and prestige this forum once had.

Close it off, allow invites only and charge $9.00 per month for new invites only. All current members remain free so we don't loose any good members.

hide it from visitor and close for new open registration.

maintain with no fee.

if new people want to join.must get invitation or interview from site admin/mod.

just my 3 cents.
