Hey everyone,

Do anyone know the what the impact of your SEO rankings will be when changing your website theme?

None whatsoever, unless it takes away some writing content, moves it to a new place, or adds writing content.

My pleasure, good luck I hope you picked a good theme!

Oh, one last thing, speed counts so do a speed test before and after, some themes have sloppy css and images that aren't optimal. Sorry I forgot to mention that in the first post!
The answer to this question changes with different scenarios, and I will try to answer this question from all angles with regards to WordPress, SEO, and traffic.

But before I move ahead, there are a few things that you should know:

  • Many WordPress themes like Genesis and Thesis come with built-in SEO options, and if you are using the theme’s SEO feature, chances are high that your blog’s SEO will be affected.
  • If you are using an SEO WordPress plugin to handle your blog’s SEO, you are more likely to retain your overall SEO, but only if your new WordPress theme is SEO optimized.
There might be some impact on SEO, but not due to the act of changing it, but due to settings of the theme.

New theme can, for example, change your internal linking structure, add breadcrumbs or add some extra keywords and thus change keyword density, add some widgets, sidebar links and so on. All in all, it can have an impact on SEO. It should not be anything massive, but keep that in mind.
Website themes with built-in SEO options, and if you are using the theme’s SEO feature, chances in your theme will not affect your blog’s SEO high.
