Technically yes, BUT, by saying that you are missing out key pieces of information.
All of the links have been created together in the space of a week.
Apparently only 300 article directories have accepted the article at this point, whereas i've created thousands of links through Xrumer, EVOPRO and Scrapebox. So based on that observation it is not possible to pinpoint any of these link tools as the cause for the drop.
But what we do know is that all of the tools combined have caused a rise in the rankings and now a drop.
What I think is most interesting is that when the rankings dropped, Google started displaying INNER PAGES instead of the homepage. So rather than a kind of "sandboxing" or penalty from Google, it seems as if the Google algorithm is somehow confused about which page to rank.
In the past when I have started linkbuilding to an inner page in order to force Google to rank the inner page instead of the homepage it has always results in a sharp initial drop in rankings at first. Which indicates further that this may not be a drop due to a penalty, but a drop due to Google ranking a different page for keyword. Why Google's algorithm has decided to do this I don't know, because all the links point to the homepage so in theory it should make the homepage stronger and more relevant due to the anchor text.
This is definitely becoming interesting.

im seeing inner pages replace the main url
Just my two cents.. try changing your on page text content.. i had an issue on a computer repair site where i can change a few words on the on page content have have it jump from 1st spot to 3rd page and back again at will... in my opinion smaller and more focused content seems to help.. but what do i really know im just a newb... =)

Do you know what a case study means? Wow dude act smart much.
I also have this with 2 of my sites now. It happened a few days after building some content and getting some links (small amount, 10-20 links).
This is something that always happens with my sites. I build links, site drops and google starts displaying inner pages which arn't that relevant to the keywords. Then after a week or two google starts displaying the homepage again. And its not only the homepage that switches, some inner pages now all of a sudden rank for the keywords of other inner pages.

If the outcome of this case study shows that excessive linking is in actual fact a safe method and will rank a website highly, then I will have learnt a very valuable lesson.
I see a lot of position 1-5 websites in Google for very competitive keywords like "acai berry" and Yahoo SitExplorer shows a oot of comment spam. This has bothered me for a long time as i've always been an advocate of small amount of links to keep away from any penalty.
But I see top sites spamming often so i'm starting to think that something isn't right in my own theory of how many links is safe to build.
This whole web 2.0 linkpushing thing, up to now i've not actually seen any sites ranking for very competitive keywords with it. Have you?
The hypothesis is that you create web 2.0s and spend a lot of time building links to them so they gain authority. Increasing a site's authority takes a fairly long time.
I've not seen many people who are openly shouting that their site started ranking any better than using a spammy method.
Feel free to do a case study, i've been asking for one several times now but no one has produced one.
So until we can see actual result sin case studies how are we to know if they are good or not. Respect to the guys who showed us the methods but we haven't really had anything concrete to say that it works as described.

I have a blog which is quite strong. One of the inner blog posts is PR3 and ranks for a keyword which I have now created a blog page to rank for specifically. I started building links to the new page with the keyword anchor text which the old blog post ranks for.
As I build more and more links to this new page I watched as the old blog post began to drop in rankings. Very gradually it has been moving down the rankings. I still haven't managed to force Google to switch pages. But I think that if I hadn't created those backlinks to the new page, then Google would still be ranking me highly for that keyword.

I've checked several keywords and they have all switched to inner page results instead of the homepage. I've not built any links to the inner pages for months. All the anchor texts where pointing directly to the homepage.
This is why it is so strange.

Do you have any evidence of experience of this first hand?
I'm genuinely interested in how you came to find out that this could be true. I'd like to see some evidence if possible, even if it is just your own experience.
