Micallef, the links he is building are being built. Xrumer and SB can build hundreds of thousands of links if you want them to.
However the reason why only a few are showing is because they are not being indexed, especially profile links. If gorang is not going to any extra methods to actually INDEX these links at all, then he may as well not build them, in my opinion.
And the worst thing about social bookmarks is, specifically Pligg, is that most of the time you have to 'vote up' the story using another account in order to transfer your story from upcoming (nofollow) to published (d0-f o llow). This pisses me off greatly as you can bookmark the shit out of your site but only see it buried among thousands of pages of upcoming bullshit and zero chance of being indexed, and even then it will be no follow.
My own experiment on 'excessive' backlinking went like this: I manually made 200 useful, relevant comments on high PR 3-7 blog pages (not domains, actual page PR) on a new site and my site went up to page 1 (no 5) for a couple weeks. Then it went down into the oblivion (still indexed) and I haven't seen it since. This was 4 months ago. It's still indexed and everything but not ranking for shit. In yahoo and bing on page one.
Hey Gorang,
thanks for continuing with this case study, it's been very informative.
There's a lot of discusion about "link velocity" these days - your constant backlinking is keeping your link velocity stable (a good thing) but I think it will be very interesting to see what will happen a couple of weeks after you stop building any links.
It would be a great way to show how much effect link velocity really has, if you feel like another experiment![]()
Ranking have jumped up today.
in Google "hemorrhoid symptoms" went form position 12, to position 9.
"Hemorrhoid treatments" went from position 20, to 19, then later to 18 and just now it is position 10.
I have a huge AMR blast coming soon. I believe AMR is causing a lot fo problems in Panda and making sites drop, we'll soon find out.
nakatoo - I think when someone says "mass linking", they basically mean spammy the internet for links as much as possible.
I'm also wondering about the AMR submissions and how it will effect you. I have AMR and i'm afraid to blast it, but we'll see.
Also, it seems that you are seeing some increases in rankings. i'm excited to see how this turns out.

Good old link velocity
Seems most think of link velocity only being used only as a penalty, when in fact search engines could use it to (pull and boost import news to the top of the serps) then allow it to drop back if x amount of links stop coming its then seen as old news
That's what I was thinking and wonder if this behavior is interpreted by some as the Google dance when in fact Google has decided that the site now lacks velocity, i.e. old news and no longer deserves its ranking. This might mean that its critical to have a steady flow of links coming in to a site to maintain position.
hehe, well, I can't say I'd blame youIf I start hitting position 1-5 for hemorrhoid symptoms/treatments then to be honest i'd prefer to keep the site there
