[CASE STUDY] Sandboxing your competition

I don't understand. I think the main thing here is that you lessened his authority for that KW becuase now Google see such a wide variety of links that he doesn't have the priority for those KW'ds.

If you target 2 KW you can probably get number 1 for both.

If you target 10,000 KW at random. For instance you didn't spam the crap out of his site using specific KW's.

If you had used the same KW's Lets say you use the word "assmunch" Now this guy not ranking for original KW but if you search for "assmunch" He number one.

So it would mean that the importance lies more in diversifying the kw's related to any niche.

You made spammy sites, but I bet if you had done good backlinking strategy but target lots of random words you would have had same effect.

Very interesting though. Normally I am vigilant against these types of things but for some reason your post is so informational that I really can't say anything bad.

I don't like the whole principle of doing this to your competition but this definetly open my eyes, and also solve the question once and for all.

So now I have no speculation as to wether it's possible. Thanks.

Im sure some one read this who I gave good ass chewing for asking how to do this same thing. lol Sorry dude. Peace.

Interested to see what happens... This is why I love BHW.

How polite.
Why do you think we're idiots? I'm guessing because of all that "don't try to hurt your competition, work on your own site". Well this isn't exactly my competition, it's a site my friend owns and he gave me permission to do tests on it. And even if that wasn't the case, why the insult? This is blackhat.

The second part of your post is useless, we all know this already. Do you think you can just build the same types of links and do the same routine of SEO forever?

No need for politeness, I prefer to be blunt. Read your first post and that is clearly not how you described the site, you went into detail of how you picked it of which nothing mentioned it was your friends site.

That's an interesting point. I don't think the site would rank for keywords like "assmuch", because that keyword wouldn't have been mention on the site itself, which is much more important.
Thanks ;)

No one will search for "Sandbox your friends unprofitable site", they will most likely want to sandbox their competition, hence the title and description. Who cares if it isn't really my own competition, it's irrelevant to the purpose of this test. Are you seriously bitching about whether or not it's my friend's site? Go annoy someone else or do something productive, build some links.

Thanks for the case study, I always believed that profile links seriously damage your rankings

Nice case study, all these sandbox studies have me thinking that it has more to do with link velocity than it does with the anchor text used. Because 13k links overnight looks very unnatural for a site that probably has done very little link building lately. While I think it may be a karma thing, it simply is the world we live in. I have not done this for any of my competition, but I can't say I haven't thought about doing it.

As more people realize this method big G will have to combat it in someway, and that is just the nature of the game. If it is devaluing blog comment & forum profile links, then so be it, we will find new methods or use other methods which have more use. This is useful information, because obviously it is happening to other BHW members, at least now knowing this useful information would allow one to fight fire with fire. I, like others, will be interested to see whether the site comes back after several weeks.

I'm just calling it as I see it, was pointing out what you said each time. No worries on my links, I'm probably building thousands more a day than you are. Maybe you should try being productive, maybe doing something like building links to YOUR site that are to boost rankings.

This is a case study, that's why.

Just wanted to igive some input on this. one of my sites was page 2-4 for 2 years or so, for a couple keywords with medium low competition. A half year or so ago, I had blasted at least 300k back links, then hundreds of thousands of other anchor links and etc... First couple weeks there was huge google dance and I either stayed around same place or almost completely out of the picture. a month or two later I'm end of page 1 and beginning of page 2. so even though i didn't do it to competition but myself, it's the same principle....

Moral of the story, not to say u sandboxes him or not... But I would wait at least 2 months before making any conclusions, because any advancements u made now can be easily temporary. I blasted waaaaaay more serious number of links than u did. I think what happens is at first all the spammy links bring the site down but after a month or so all the spammy links get delisted or deleted so all what's left are the good value links that push the person up.

Just leave already, you're not helping anyone with bitching around, telling us how many links you build and how much you assume I build.

Update 2:

I noticed one of the side keywords, not mentioned in the first post, lost rankings as well. You can see on 09-02 I did the blast, next day it lost a few spots and today it lost 9 again. I also tracked this keyword more than 2 weeks prior to the blast, but it was on #6 if you're wondering (THIS ISN'T KEYWORD 1 OR 2):

Keyword 1 actually jumped to #163 earlier today (from 1000+ after the blast and 1st page before the blast) and I wanted to update the thread with this disappointing info, but BHW was down (for me?) and so I checked the rank again just now.. It lost 10 spots, so it's at #173 now, which is still far away from the first page it was on in the beginning.

No change for keyword 2, i.e still 1k+.

I haven't seen any changes since the last update yet, in case you're wondering.

Keep the updates coming! Really interesting case study and I want to know how it's gonna turn out!!

I think it has been proven that you can harm a competitors rankings in the short run, however in the long run it will just come back stronger.

I have many sites that I have "sandboxed" on my own, and yes it hurts because you do lose income for a while. However after some time (often 2-3 months) if you are continuously adding content/links it will come back even stronger than before.

So short-term of course you can harm competition, but in the long-run they will come back stronger.

Something weird happened.. I accidentally made the links to http://www. when the exact URL was http://. The 2nd got deindexed and the htpp://www. got indexed at roughly the same spots.

Kudos to Swiss for testing this, too much speculation and not enough testing goes on in forums. More like this!!!!!

Ha, that's nicely done. I never really thought about this idea... I might study doing a few tests. Cheers.

Look, It was a a 10 year old forum with 1 new page of 1 month old. a bad link was placed to a bad neighbhourhood on the page (this was possible since it is a forum). then 75000 links towards the page with poor quality anchors regarding the low quality link on the page.

Absolutely nothing happend, the page just got stronger.

And I lost my client because I believed someone else who told me that it would work...

It doesn't always work! So be carefull and don't make promises if you have to do this !

PS: I'm talking about 75000 verified and pinged links.....
