[Case Study] Reddit Advertising

I rarely see anyone talk about reddit ads so I decided to give it a try.

Setup: Very easy. They don't require you to have a business. Anybody can create an ad. You can target traffic from certain countries and even target specific states in the US. You can also specify which subreddits you want your ad to show on.

Rules: Straightforward. No redirects. No Adult material in the ad. Etc. Pretty common stuff. I don't think affiliate links are allowed but a landing page is a simple solution or website.

Cost: $20 got me nearly 60,000 impressions, 353 clicks ($0.06 cpc), all US traffic

Results: This is the disappointing part. Out of 353 clicks, I only got 1 conversion for $10. However, it was a direct to sales page ad (will not disclose product or niche).

Conclusion: For the price and amount of clicks it delivered, I definitely think reddit deserves some experimentation. Perhaps a direct to sale page ad isn't a good idea or perhaps my ad and product sucked. Regardless, I'm going to do more work with reddit ads. I imagine if I can find something worthy it will be an amazing return on investment.

That's interesting... I feel like you have to make a good ad and have good landing page to get passed people on reddit. They seem to be a different breed IMO lol.
Bing at $20 (bidding 0.10 on each keyword ) gives me about half of what you got. More targeting and tracking and I see the value in this.

I find that advertising for anything related to selling does not work for reddit traffics at all. Reddit crowds do not like marketers. However I find that using a how to guide type of video and indirectly promoting the product gives me better chance of success with reddits advertising.

That's the vibe I get from Reddit. Many of them are knowledge seekers. Maybe direct them to a DIY type page and promote the project tools or something. Reddit usually shames self promotion and users tend to stay away from product ads on there. (Unless it really does interest them like in OPs case.)

You send them direct to a sales page, what do you expect? 100 Sales immediately?

If it were that easy, everyone here would be doing it. You have to set up landing pages.
Do a giveaway of the item or product, build an email list and then market to them. Even if the
item is something they really want, people feel better buying from someone they trust.

If it is a site they have never landed on, the CR will be low (as in your case) ands you must build your own
Landers and build an email list. Direct sales can be done, but you'll have to test many landing pages and find
which works best. Often the advertising offers have shitty pages, and have horrible CR's.

You as a marketer have to get them from "I don't who they fuck these people are" to "I trust this company and their information, I will buy"

Reddit isn't the only source for traffic. Although you can get low CPC there. Build a giveaway landing page, send those same amount of clicks
and watch how many opt ins you get. If it's not much (below 20%) then well, you got a shitty product or service.
