Hey everyone,

I wanted to share something interesting I have been testing over the past few weeks. Since Google started showing AI Overviews more often, I’ve been curious whether they actually affect organic clicks - especially for blogs that already rank on page 1.

Test Setup:
  • 1 website (tech & marketing niche)
  • 6 articles published in early October
  • All targeted low-to-mid competition keywords (1k–5k monthly searches)
  • Half of them structured with FAQs, schema, and direct “answer” style intros
  • The other half were longer, storytelling-type blogs without structured data

Results (after 3 weeks):
  • 3 “answer-style” posts appeared inside Google’s AI Overview box for related queries.
  • Those pages still held top 5 positions - but their CTR dropped by '22–28%' compared to the others.
  • The longer, non-featured blogs actually saw slightly higher engagement, even with fewer impressions.

My takeaway: being featured in AI Overviews looks good for visibility, but it might not always bring clicks - users often get what they need from the summary itself. On the other hand, deeper, experience-driven posts seem to attract readers who actually want to visit the page.

It’s still early, but it feels like SEO in 2025 is less about just “ranking” and more about “earning the second click” - the one that comes from curiosity or added value.

Has anyone else tracked similar patterns since these AI snippets started showing up more? Would love to hear if it’s the same across other niches (like travel, finance, or ecommerce).
