[Career Help] How to Make money as a freelancer programmer

I have no degree and nobody is going to hire me, but I am willing to work my ass off to make a buck as a freelancer.

Area of Interest : AI, Data Science, Internet Marketing, Hacking, Building Cool Stuff.

I figured learning AI or Machine learning takes time to learn and is not going to help me put food on the table on immediate basis. So I taught let me learn some skills to build a website and started learning laravel framework.

But I figured there is huge market for wordpress and wordpress theme development. But it is boring work honestly.

I am juggling here and there going no where. My monthly money requirement as of now is $250 which I plan to reach in 2-3 months. Please guide me what I need to do which path to take.

TLDR; If I don't make freelance carrier I am fucked.

You don't need a degree for freelancing stuff. Go to upwork or fiverr and check out what jobs are beeing offered.

I don't know how skilled you are, but you can start on freelancing, Fiverr or whatever place there is for programming.

Check what others are selling. Check those with high ratings and with orders on the queue.

Make your own gig. Model the other top gigs and offer something more/unique.

In the mid time, you can also check the make money section here for other ways of making money that doesn't rely on programming.
If you are ready to work your ass off, there are plenty of methods to choose from. Just stick to one until you make it work.

Make some portfolio And advertise your skill.

Make a list of the skill you have and based on that what you can make. If you know what you are able to do you can focus on that and then learn new things overtime. There are multiple freelance websites you can join and search for jobs, but you will probably need a portfolio.

I can't stress the importance of a portfolio. Especially for freelancers. You're going to be asking for work from people that don't know you or what you're capable of at all. And they have 10 others like you, with proof of their abilities, also knocking on the door wanting the contract. Focus on building a portfolio before diving too far into bidding out jobs. It'll just save you so much time if you get it out of the way first.

It sucks, but one of the easier ways to build a portfolio is to build products for free. Local mom & pop shops, restaurants, etc. Put some work together for them. Give it away for free. Add it to your portfolio. Do this a few times and there you go. Plus, you have some references to put on paper, and potential word-of-mouth referrals coming in down the road.

Fiverr is the best for business .Its a great website to find a freelancer

It depends where you live.

I explain. Let's say that you want to work online and a company offers a remote job. Usually, the company will pick the guy with more experience and cheaper. And you live in the Us of A, an average salary is around $4-5k USD per month (a so-so salary), so you ask for it, and you lose the offer because somebody else asked less (and maybe he/she has more experience). In India, the average is around $5k USD PER YEAR, so we could compete in price with that ridiculous salary.

Instead, let's say that you don't want to be freelance and you know or learn Java and you could easily earn a good salary working in a 9to5 job, you don't need to hunt for customers every month, just do your work and nothing more.

There are some guys that earn more than +100k USD per year using Fiverr and UpWork (and freelance) but the media is most earn $500 per month if any (minus the comission of UpWork/Fiverr), so this market is imploding with sh*** works and sh**** developers. UpWork was cool years ago, now it's a wasteland that it's cruel with the greenhorns. YOU DON'T WANT TO MESS WITH THEM, trust me.

Now, you don't have a degree. It is not a problem.

Right now, there are not few companies that hire people without a degree, they don't care about the degree. Most companies care about:

* Degree if any.
* Experience (it is a must)
* Expertise.

For example, let's say we need a programmer on c# (as a Project in Chief, I worked hiring developers):

* me: Hi: Do you have experience on c#
* candidate #1: No, I have a bachelor on...
* me: next!

* me: Hi: Do you have experience on c#
* candidate #2: Yes, I learned (in the U) the basic about c#, cycles, variables, logic
* me: Ok. So, How do you connect to the database?.
* candidate #2: I don't know, we never used a database but we learned c#...
* me: next!.

* me: Hi: Do you have experience on c#
* candidate #2: Yes, I worked 6 months on a project that we used Sql server and mvc
* me: Ok. So, How do you connect to the database?.
* candidate #2: Ado.net.
* me: Do you know entity framework?
* candidate #2: No but I can learn
* me: Ok, and you are asking a salary for junior, you don't fit with all requirements but you are in the right path, welcome aboard!.


So, if you don't have a degree but experience then you could land a job in no time, a month if less. But you NEED experience and it is when you need to exercise your network (relatives, friends and such), join a startup or what-ever, work hard 6 months/1 year and start finding jobs.

No, you don't. You want money.

First, hacking is anything but glamorous. Let's say you are the best hacker in the world, the best hacker is like a ninja, he is anonymous, so he will NEVER EVER get any personal fame.

You mentioned you have an interest in hacking. Now, I am not sure which subset within this niche do your interests lay in, but, as a gamer, I have come across TONS of hackers. So naturally, me being a scrub, I google these hacks and it looks to me like these cheat makers are actually banking HARD. One example is Apex Legends. When it first came out, monthly subscriptions for cheats were averaging $100-$300 for the premium ones. Point in case, if you're a good coder, you could steer towards this direction. Seems like there's money to be made.
