A too big ping list will ring on their door hundreds of times telling them this and anyone can get pissed off by less. I for sure would if Jehovas Withness or any lexicon/vacuum cleaner salesman was visiting my door hundreds of times per day.
If on another hand one aren't using a ping function from ones site and instead ping the social bookmark feeds the result will be different.
See it as if an authority walked over to Google and rang on their doorbell to tell them about this awesome site they ought to take a closer look at. This will always be more worth then if you are telling Google the same yourself.
It's also often better with fewer pings as it looks more genuine and less spammy.
Ok, thx. I haven't really heard that before, but I'm not going to argue
with a thanks-count like yours(!).

I've personally never noticed a slap
from the SERPS for 'spamming' them with a daily barrage of pings, but to be
honest, I haven't even looked into it, so again, thank you for at least
bringing that possibility to my attention. I'll have to look into that further.
With
SEnuke as you may or may not know, a lot of times you're building many
one-page 'blogs' on Web 2.0 sites, Wordpress among them but not really
the same King that it is for a lot of IMers. Now you are saying that it's
still
OK to 'ring the SERP's bell' from these higher-authority Web 2.0 sites, right?
Esp. if you've recently (since the last ping) promoted this particular site
with bookmarks, etc, I assume?
Also, do you know of any more specific method when to ping so that's
the most effective as far as SERPs are concerned?
Thanks in advance a0rta, I really do appreciate your insight.
