Can someone explain Security Token Offerings(STO) to me?

Hello guys, I read that STO is the recent way to invest and earn from crypto(although in its early stage) but I do not have a good knowledge still. Please can someone explain to me and also tell me how to invest.
Secondly, will the STO have offers like bounties and airdrop where people can earn by performing some activities. Thanks
