Can I use AI writing tools this way?

Hello everyone; I hope you guys are doing great.

So, I use AI writing tools to improve the quality of my articles. Basically, what I do is I write a blog post, then I run it through an AI writing tool to rephrase certain sentences. I do so because I found that sometimes the tool rewrites the sentences in a better way than mine. Can I continue doing what I'm doing, or will my website be penalized for using AI-generated content? If it's considered AI content in the first place. Also, could someone kindly explain to me how does Google differentiate between human-written and AI-generated articles?

Google has already stated that AI written content will be penalized.
 
if you're in profitable niches and / or target good keywords (with lots of search volume and / or commercial intent) you're probably better off not using AI. Otherwise, you're fine (one of my shitty websites ranks for a shitty keyword that has no search volume, at #5 with 100% AI generated content, and the only explanation I have for this ranking is the fact that no website that ranks on page 1 for that keyword has better content, so google has nothing better to rank and ranks my content instead... Of course, it could also be due to the fact that my domain is aged - I've been having it for 3-4 years now, and this piece of content has been sitting on my site for over an year... oh, and the domain has a few decent backlinks from some decent sites as well, so this might help too, so yeah... but my point is that AI content still ranks if you manage to find keywords for which there is very little relevant content in google, or no content at all. But such keywords usually have no search volumes, they'll send like 2-3 visitors a month to your site, and this is not really attractive from a business POV, but if you manage to find several 100s of such keywords and rank them all in top 3 with AI content I think you are potentially looking at few 1000s visitors a month... So yeah, AI content still ranks, even the garbage auto-generated one like I have, but like I said, you need to meet the right requirements in terms of easy keyword + content age + domain authority which, by the way, according to MOZ, for my domain it's 17, so pretty low authority)

But if I'm not mistaken, AI-generated content is content that already exists elsewhere and is simply rewritten to pass the plagiarism test. However, the content I publish is mine, just rewritten by an AI tool to make it sound better. So, according to you, there's no difference between the two?

but I always doubted how they could distinguish between AI-generated content and user-generated content. AI writers are so advanced these days.
 
I also use various AI content generators. But I suggest you check for plagiarism before publishing them.
 
I do not believe they can do detect AI content and is because the idea is to make it look human and you are already giving a base to start to the AI that is your own idea but still I do not belive they can detect it.
 
You should modify the articles and check them on the AI content checker. If it shows AI content then you should not upload this. Usually, I generate articles from AI tools and do some modifications and make them human-written. If you do it so many times, you will understand what changes make AI content human-written.a good experience in it.
 
AI-generated content is not against Google's guidelines as long as it is not used to manipulate search engine results (you can read about it here: https://developers.google.com/search/blog/2023/02/google-search-and-ai-content).

Using it to add another touch to your writing I don't think it will be a problem, although I recommend you test and see if Google ranks your content. What could happen is that artificial intelligence could cause your text to be detected as AI-generated content when in fact you have written it yourself.

I would recommend you focus on the quality of your content, on responding directly to the search intent and on personalising it according to your opinion.
