I have an eCommerce store. My traffic and ranking suddenly dropped in December and January. what is the cause of this?

I am thinking of uploading old content back on the website and removing new content uploaded.

Is this a Good idea in terms of SEO?

What needs to be added and removed from the website?

Please help me and guide me.

Yes what caused it? find out about that.
Why would you think swapping new with old content will work?

There are many reasons for drop in ranking. You can add quality new content instead of replacing it with old contents. Do backlinks for the website.

If your online store traffic took a hit, don't just swap old and new content. Find out why it dropped by checking for issues, updating important stuff, and making sure your website is easy for users

Firstly, focus on why the ranking has dropped down. Then to rank again relace the content with high quality content rather than the old one.

Improve or re-write your content for ranking again.

I would suggest against it, that's because google saves internally data about your articles so it can compare with other articles and if the result is the same it'll trigger the "duplicate content" penalty. At least rewrite the articles properly before uploading it to another website

Check for the website history in https://web.archive.org/ and identify by doing what changes you are experiencing fall in traffic.. Try to find out the exact issue because of which the issue occurred and revert the changes to the old one...

Make sure you have not changed the meta of the website, changing the well-performing page Title is the major cause of sudden fall in traffic....

Also, check the Google Search console if you got any serious issue notifications.....

Review your website's backlink profile to identify any spammy or low-quality backlinks impacting your rankings. Using Disavow tool to avoid Spammy Links .Assess the user experience of your website, including navigation, site structure, and checkout process. uploading old content back and removing new content its not a Good Idea, Simply change the old content may not solve the Issue. Instead, focus on improving the quality, relevance, and user experience of your website's content.

Why You want to old content? Did you recently removed contents from your website and uploaded new content?

It's essential to diagnose the root cause of your traffic drop before making significant changes. Reverting to old content may not necessarily address the underlying issue. Instead, focus on conducting a thorough SEO audit to identify any technical issues, algorithm updates, or content quality issues that may have impacted your rankings. Additionally, consider updating and optimizing existing content, improving site speed, addressing broken links, and enhancing user experience.

I wouldn't upload any old content to the site. It's better to deal with the drop in site traffic, there must be a reason for it

Your website got hit by the November core update most likely,
So far what i can see is they're focusing more in the website overall authority & UX signals,

Authority websites are taking over for most of queries,
With a few less authority websites mainly with great UX (good on page time, pages/session, low bounce rate, etc...),

Content is still playing a major role as well, but nothing changed from my perspective, not within this update at least,
I still see websites with the same less detailed/optimized content having the same or better traffic just by having a good link profile & UX signals,
Basically matching the users search queries & providing what's actually needed for the users

Simply uploading old content won't fix.Focus on creating quality new content, improve technical aspects, social media, backlinks this all will help you to regain traffic and rankings.
