The short answer to this is that you can't run a competition without speaking to an Admin first. Here it is, explained in the rules:

3.9 Contests, Sweepstakes and Requests for donations is prohibited without Admin approval.

But it might also be useful to know a bit more about what we mean by that.

Essentially, we want to understand and help promote any contests so that we can make sure our BHW members are getting what they are promised and are being treated fairly. In order to do that, we ask that you provide us with the prize and we pick the winner from a publicly submitted forum based pool. That way, the contest can be impartial and transparent, ie no list building.

We charge $250 to run a competition unless the prize is a BHW Jr. VIP membership in which case we drop the fee.

To request a review of your competition/contest, please contact support here or via [email protected].

We charge $250 per competition.

Does this include competitions such as the Hunger Games, or giving Jr. VIP subscriptions to those providing quality threads?

i.e. a BHW member will need to pay $250 to urge users to provide fresh and compelling content to BHW?

EDIT: I ask because I was hoping to do something like this in the near future (Jr. VIP for high quality, new threads), but paying $250 for the privilege of paying $97 x X is a bit of a turnoff.

EDIT 2: I also understand that this cost likely covers the labor involved with moderating and administrating such a contest. Is that what the cost will be allocated to? Thanks.

The $250 charge is an administrative fee for us handling a competition with any prize that isn't a BHW membership.

For example: Unfortunately in the past, we've had people setting up competitions where they do not supply the prize, so we're tying to stop that from happening.

So if you are offering to pay for a member's Jr VIP upgrade, there wouldn't be an admin charge. You do, however, still need admin approval.

Perhaps we could differentiate between those wanting to run a competition as a promotional method for their business and those wanting to simply do it to help the forum and others. 250 is a lot for wanting to give to the forum but sounds very reasonable for those wanting to promote their business.

It's pretty straightforward, Jamie... if someone is running a competition to benefit themselves or an entity that is not under the BHW umbrella that is going to cause them to reach for their wallet.

If it is a deal where they are trying to do something under the BHW umbrella it is fine/free with Admin (not Mod) approval.

@Don’t Panic , Are all types of Niche accepted ? A directory/link to supported niche would be handy.

Had an idea and not sure how to approach it...let's say I want to giveaway a total of $1000 or four $250 dollar prizes to whomever sells one of my customers motorcycles and I give You folks the money upfront and a extra $250 for running the competition correct?
