Can I rank in 2 months?

If I have a long tail keyword with essentially little to no competition (almost every result in the top 10 is PR0 with no backlinks), will it be possible to rank in, say, at least the top 5 within 2 months with nothing but a good article on that keyword? Or will I need to start learning about link building etc? In fact, is it possible to rank within 2 months at all or will it inevitably take longer than that?

This is going to be my first online venture (as opposed to my usual offline ventures) and I'll admit that some of the things that have been said here have gone over my head a bit (my IM knowledge is admittedly minimal). So I'll look into all the backlinking stuff a bit more.

Don't suppose anyone could give me a ballpark figure of how much I should expect to have to invest in this? Probably a difficult question to answer without more details, but funds are low right now and I don't want to spend all my time on this if I'm not going to have the money to back it up.

It usualy take 2-3 months (if it`s not churn and burn). However I doubt it will happen without links (try to use parasites and link them, don`t link such an young site directly)
 
Yes, With good onpage, you can get your website in top rankings with in 2 months. Use webmaster tools to fetch your pages regularly when ever you add a page to site
 
Its definitely possible to rank within 2 months. In order to rank high without any backlinks, your site should have high DA. A few quality links is more than enough to rank it on top.
 
Yes, it is possible that you can rank your website within 2 months but only if you website is properly optimized for your target audience.
 
You need backlinks, internal or external, to rank for any keyword that gets searched regularly on Google. 2 months should be enough given that your target keyword is a low competition keyword.
 
2 months is the normal time period people would suggest you allow for a site to gain some raking traction.
 
Buy aged domain with good backlinks ---> throw 15 and more high quality articles ---> good on page SEO ---> get index of all posts ---> throw some social signals to all the pages over few days ---> do press release(it cheap if you can find here) ---> rest a day or 2 ---> build backlinks from authority sites or PBNs if you called it( just a few good one will do) ---> build 2nd tiers to all of the PR and PBNs ---> wait ---> watch dancing from google ---> let it settle( it wont if you keep throwing links to it everyday) ---> ....
 
Two months is enough to rank your site as you're keywords are low competition keyword.. But backlink are needed to rank your keywords.. You can do it either externally or internally..
 
You can rank in 1 month, and decent visits start coming in 3-4 months, if you done it well
 
You are going to need some backlinks to rank for any keyword in 2 months, or you will have to write articles like crazy and submit your site's sitemap every day to Google. If you choose to do backlinks do not overdo it, if it is a new site. You may as well try a pyramid link building method.
 
I can rank a site in 1 month for a medium competitive niche. You need to write good articles but the magic potion are the links.
You need to use high quality backlinks for your site and check if they're considered spam (in this case don't buy/use them).

Anchor texts are another important part of the ranking process.

Yes, you can. Unique and high quality articles are really effective to get high rank.
I think you may also need some high quality backlinks too.

You always need links to rank,on page seo is not enough to rank on first page,unless,there is 0 competition
