this question has been bothering me for sometimes now, so let's say I just do On-Page SEO for all my posts and they start ranking in searches, I mean I do this for basically all my posts, is it possible that I will start getting backlinks without the usual buying, or guest posting or commenting methods?

Yes, its entierly possible to get organic backlinks if you can rank on first page with just on page Seo

Yes, of course. Especially, if your page looks legit, other sites might use it as a reference.

Short answer is yes. But, if you want to rank for hard keywords, it won't be easy.

Yes but it can time and superb viral content

It's possible. For an example, in the last month, two of my articles that I've done zero backlinking to have received a backlink from thewirecutter.com and businessinsider.com.

It's a matter of having near perfect on-page SEO, low competition terms, and most importantly - really good content.

Backlinks can definitely come on their own - but the question is - how good is your content until to the point that someone wants to share it on their social media, or on their website?
The content should be exceptionally good, to be the prime motivational factor to make that person wants to share it on their platform.
Thus, having a tier-99 content (top tier) would be difficult, as you will be spending a lot of time developing it and trying to encourage people to read it, and then only comes the backlinks after that.

I used to have a free software site with 20,000 active users. I thought that would be enough to get killer backlinks. Hardly got any.

Switched to a membership site and built a little pbn. Best decision ever! :-)

It depends on your niche, content (value) and how willing are people to share your content.

For example a few years ago I had a website related to addiction. I couldn't believe that I got links from top websites, just because a few webmasters found my content really helpful. I think they spotted my website on facebook.

Victor, in short yes and these are usually the "best" kinds. A backlink that comes "organically" is one that comes without purchasing the link or creating your own backlinks.

An example would be a news article that quotes an industry professional. The industry professional gets a link. "John Doe of Megacorp believes the economy will be great in 2019." There would usually be a link to "Megacorp's" website there.

Another example would be a product review or restaurant review, where you write the review and link to the product's (or restaurant's) page.

These are often considered the best types of links, because these organic links often drive a fair amount of natural traffic from people interested in the topic who are likely to go look at your page. An article about family activities that links to a children's museum as another example.

Yes. You can sharing the blogs on social bookmarking sites, you can start posting articles with your links on web2.0 sites and infographics submission. It is possible of getting quality backlinks.

Yes it could, depends on your niche, depends on your content... I got one website which I forgot to update for months, just lying around then, one day, as I check my analytics for all sites, theres a spike on that site... I was surprised buzzfeed linked to a post, and others followed posting my page link on their sites as it became a hot topic, like ranker etc...

After that, it all went down again, so I suggest you still need to do backlinking....
