What's up, guys. I found a great domain with a link from a HUGE site in my niche, but it seems like someone previously used it to redirect to his porn site in 2018.

Do you think it's still worth it to buy? The domain is expired, so isn't linking to his porn site anymore, but I'm curious if this leaves a footprint that Google will pick up on.

    Thanks for the help!

Ive not every tried this specifically in this case, so this is a theory response. However I think you "should" be able to buy the domain and pass the link to you. If ranks go up, leave it, if they go down, remove it.

Im just a big believer in letting things be what they are, aka push the button and see what happens.

The upside to that is that I learn a load of things in a practical way, including short cuts. Im not afraid to push the button and see what happens.

The down side to that is... Well on a grand occasion when you push the button, something blows up. :)

So you can do as you please and its worth some input from someone who has tried it in this case. because I suppose in theory there is a chance if you buy it, place the link and ranks go down, and you remove the link, that google could still keep ranks down, its certainly possible, so that would be my only concern . So someone who has done that could shed some insight.

Of course I always test everything, so personally I would buy it because its just an investment of your time and like $10 for the domain. So if you have the time and the $10, buy it. Point it at some other site, see what happens. If its positive, remove that link and point it at yours, if its negative, remove that link and then just let it lay.

    My 2 cents.

If it was just a redirect, not problem. But, what if that guy did something else to that domain and you can't see?

If it was redirected to porn site - the domain is gone for good.

Do not 301 it to your site.

Awesome, thanks for the great advice, guys. I'm checking how many IP's they've had. Should it usually be less than 2-3?

what i would do is register it, upload a random filler site and see how google treats it.

So you think it did leave a footprint? Once someone redirects a domain to a spammy porn site, is it just permanently deranked in Google's eyes?

You'll need to thoroughly check the domain's backlink profile instead as well - if it has spammy links, then it will hurt your site in the process. Otherwise, the process is as follows: since this domain was 301 to an XXX website, then in the search engine's p-o-v, it's a XXX website, as a 301 = XXX at the initial stage. Thus, when you initially 301 that, it will have a very small chance of listing your site in that category. And the search engine is known to be very slow in updating its data - so it may take 3-6-9-12 months to get it to reflect the correct data in the process. And since it's 301, the first update = XXX site is quick, but subsequent ones, are very slow.

    According to my experience,
You can buy that domain and add an article related to your niche. Now wait for few days and see if your site comes up in google on top 30-40. By this you will check if the domain is good in google's eyes or not.

If the domain is good, it will show up in Google with the old pages, right away after you setup the nameservers.
