Hey, I want to work on viagra niche and I'm buying an expired domain with good metrics!!
Most seo gurus tell that buying a domain with anchors like viagra is spammy.. should I go for it? or no

No. Those domains are very often penalized, toxic, just overall bad. Though I presume you are going after churn and burn and in that case you might want to give it a shot, but imo, you would still be better of with clean non relevant domain.

@Nargil is right, you better get a clean domain in this case. %99 of those expired domains are probably spammed to death and some of them penalized too.

Before buying any expired domain you should check the anchor link and previous site history from archive.org

Before buying check the archive.org, check ahrefs, moz, majestic etc to make sure that your domain is clean. I scrape on expired domains on regular basis and then bulk check these domains on ahrefs, moz, majestic to pickup good ones and then check on archive.org.

Actually, you should be going for expired domains that have very good metrics, but not necessarily that are focused on that particular niche.
Try getting something that has TF>20-30 , PA/DA>35, and it would be an added bonus, if it is social signals+extremely high quality links from news sites - this would bump up your site's authority considerably in the process.
Vetting the link profile and ensuring good, hq ones would definitely be a huge bonus for your site.

If you are planning on buying a expired domain it is better to check the backlinks and the site history . Because many of these domains would have been greatly spammed. So make sure you are getting the right one. All the best!
