I have been perusing this section as I want to create mobile websites for my local business customers. I originally wanted to stick with Wordpress but am finding that most WP mobile plugins do not come with many necessary mobile functions like click to call, or click to G-Maps for directions.

Can anyone guide me to a business mobile site builder with these functions yet simple to use?

    Tnx mch,
    DW

Edit: I just saw the Resource List thread; and saw the two mobile builder sites: http://mobisitegalore.com/ and http://gomobi.info/home.html . They have very different designs.

Perhaps a good question would be: What does a good business mobile website look like from your own perspective?

    Tnx guys,
    DW

A good mobile site is direct and to the point not bloated with to much fluff. Mobile searchers are usually looking for something specific like Phone number, Hours of Operation,Coupons and directions and maybe menu items for restaurants.

I am currently building my own builder site but wordpress is good to build mobile awesome sites.

for click to call you can just add
    Code:
    <a href="tel:+1800229933">Call us free!</a>
For maps you can just add customers places page link or embed code from G

Is there a site or service that you can pay others to make you a mobile site for like $100, I already have a large site I just want a m. redirect to a mobile version.

If your site is WP and you just want a mobile version, then I would suggest WPtouch.

    Code:

ill build a m. site for $100...from what Ive seen a optimized mobile app (tell that to your client when you pimp them) should be just as mentioned above by crosscheck. Very basic to the point with a minimum of images, contact, deals, directions and basic info. Its supposed to load faster than a full size so that's why you don't use so many images. and don't put a video in there just link to video site and be viewable on all/most smart phones...check out appbotic

Appbotic - excellent! Their carpet demo app was great. This would be just the thing most offline businesses would want. People have all kinds of apps on their smart phones. Any offline business would want to offer one if it was affordable.

Is this your site Gray? And can you create an app like they have on demo for $100.00?

This is like a mobile website in app form.

It seems mobile users are using apps like a more accessible bookmark. I think I am beginning to understand what is going on out there with mobile apps and mobile websites.

    Tnx,
    DW

using these on a subscription basis is not a sustainable one you are better of getting your own website and advertising the mobile design site just as any other web design company

I got into this recently, what i did was i got in touch with existing web designing firms and offered them this as an upsell to their clients for a commission and has been workin ok so far.

Not making Mad crazy money but its a start .

That is a valid idea, but I don't know if it is the smartest one. If you go about selling mobile sites through someone else then you are right, having a subscription cannot be done easily. But, if you go out and sell the product/service yourself, then you can implement reoccurring payments. There is no denying that reoccurring payments, when the work only has to be done once, is the most profitable. Would you rather get payed 1 payment for $300 or a first time payment of $200 plus $10 min. every single month, for every single site you sell? It sucks you won't be able to take advantage of this stream of income. But that's the price you pay for having other people market and sell your product for you.

There is a good product in Downloads section called "My Mobile Business" or is it "My Mobile Business in a Box"?! (Sorry I can't post links yet!)

Really easy template to customise and looks pretty decent too. Simple solution for providing your clients with mobile site. You can either charge them for a one-off creation, a monthly fee for hosting the site, or both!
