Building an Ad Network from scratch

you are doing awesome work. This is complex business. But, if you build ad network for such niches. You will definitely make lot of money. I will be following your thread closely.
Thanks a lot! Really appreciate the encouragement, I never thought people would be interested on this.
Yeah, it's a tough space but that's also where the biggest gaps are, incumbents don't really innovate and there are some inefficiencies and outdated approaches that could be improved.

Im glad to have you along the journey :)

I was interested in this sort of venture myself a long time ago. Never completed the project due to financial challenges.
Can I ask a rough estimate of how much did you invested so far in this ? And how much are you willing to keep pumping to turn this network into a success.
It’s definitely the kind of project that can stretch your resources if you’re not careful. So far I’ve kept things lean by doing most of the development and planning myself (infra, backend, user interface, API, etc.), and I have just devoted around 10 hours to it. I develop for a living but I had more free time on my hands lately and I chose to start this as it was scratching an itch that I had for a long time.

That said, I’m prepared to gradually invest more as I validate traction, especially once I start onboarding advertisers and publishers. The idea is to build a sustainable base first, then scale up from there.

Happy to share more down the line once the first version is live!

It's nice to see something different for a change. I hope you keep this thread updated regularly—best of luck moving forward.
Yess! Thanks for the encouragement. This is the stuff i would have loved to read earlier in my career. So sharing in public to encourage others that have the tools or means to do it :)

Mini update:
Been toying with the dashboard interface a bit, trying to keep it clean and intuitive for both advertisers and publishers. Also working on payments and payouts integration… still struggling with that part, but making slow progress

I’ve decided to structure everything around organizations: when you register, a default organization is automatically created, and you can invite teammates/friends to collaborate. Each org has its own billing setup, which makes it easier to separate accounts and responsibilities, while still allowing users to belong to multiple orgs if needed.

Also starting to design the referral system: I’m thinking of giving a % commission for 1 year, both for advertisers and publishers you bring in. Either a share of the ad spend or revenue generated to incentivize organic growth and reward early users.

That sounds like a really interesting and ambitious project. Building an ad network from scratch is a massive undertaking especially in those niches. I'm particularly curious about your approach to targeting and fraud prevention. Those alternative distribution methods could be really effective if you can keep the traffic quality high. One thing I'd definitely suggest is really focusing on building strong relationships with your publishers. Transparency and clear communication are key especially in these spaces. Also remember that compliance even if it is outside mainstream platforms is still something to consider. Good luck with the build! I'll be following along with your updates. Its a bold move and I am excited to see how it turns out.
