Build Backlink Right To Sitemap Page

Dear All

What is positive and negative effect if we build backlink that pointing right to sitemap (xml or html) page?

I just curious about the (positive and negative) effect, because sitemap page has a lot internal link.
 
I suppose the only benefit would be to boost that pages authority and maybe possibly relevance, as having almost 0 content itll be tough to rank it

You mean, it won't give effect to the whole inner link on the sitemap page?
 
Never tried it but I'd say it's probably fairly ineffective as it would look extremely unnatural. Google may devalue the links for trying to manipulate Page Rank. I wouldn't want to risk a penelty.

Having a good site structure/internal links is more beneficial as it's natural and will help PR flow through your site.

Make sense. It's too risk to try this method for primary site. Maybe can try this for secondary site, for experiment purpose.

I'll have a think about setting this up at some point. I think the purpose would be to try and raise sitemap page authority and see if that can transfer to inner pages. So much to do at the moment though.

Great question though, something I've never seen before or read either nice job @AngoraSpace
